The Pros: Changing Shoes during a match

I 've seen commentators voice shoe changesby players during changeovers. They often replay the footage caught during the commercial break. It's not a recent thing: from McEnroe fifteen years ago, to Roddick only recently. They changed shoes at least three times during a hard court match. I recognize that pro equipment must be perfect, but honestly, 3 shoe changes? Sure, the socks need changing at the pro level after a set or two. I'll give you that, but does anyone understand the constant shoe swapout?
