Who won the match? That's all that matters in the end.

Except in the way that gets points. You don't outplay someone in every possible way and then lose. I wanted Moya to win, but come on people give Roddick some credit.

Yea...Roddick still won. Not to bag on Moya cuz I like him...but just think...Moya lost to a player who volleyed horribly! So what does that make Moya? LOL

So what does that tell you about how the rest of Roddick's game matched up with him?

Great match. Kudos to both players.

As much as I dislike Roddick, sorry to say that is a lame statement prodigy. Yeah Roddick isn't a good volleyer but managed to pull it out. Moya didn't have any sting or placement on a lot of his volleys either. C'mon Spadea or Calleri!!

I can't believe Moya choked big time in the end. He is much better player overall though, and this match proved it even more.

Outplaying doesn't count, unless it gets you the W.

Paul Annacone once said that he didn't praise Pete on his easy wins, but only on the wins in which he didn't play his best, yet still pulled out the match.

That's what happened today.

If you look at the stats, Moya did play better in that he had a better winner to error ratio. But Roddick dug deep and fought better and was able to win the biggest points that counted.

OK, not in EVENY possible way, but after watching Roddick netting those easy volleys in the second set I just had to say something bad about him. I'm sure Calleri will do the job though, he's on fire this week... heeehe

I'm a Roddick fan so it's hard to be objective but that's just sour grapes from a loser. I like Moya and Ferrero as well but when it came down to the nitty gritty, Roddick pulled it out. He didn't play his best match by a mile but he's in the SF and Moya is flying to Mallorca for the DC next week. If Roddick still won despite his play today then what does that say for Moya who played damn good? By the way, that running crosscourt forehand winner down 30-40 (5-5) was the point of the match. Moya wins that point, he doesn't choke a second time on his serve. Those are the breaks, nothing is in the bag until you win the last point. Same applies for picking up chicks.

This is making me insane. HOW DID HE LOSE!! I, the ultimo king of headcase, couldn't have even choked this badly.

Moya is a better player than Roddick in all aspects except for Serving and Mental strength and focus.

Sorry, PCMD, but even though you blithely discount those HUGE advantages Roddick has over Moya, I hate to tell you, but YES, his forehand is also far superior to Moya's. Prettier? No ... but SCOREBOARD doesn't lie. Nobody was prettier than Pioline, and Arazi has a pretty game, too, but no slams.

Sad fact is, in today's game, Carlos may be done at 27 ... he is a big guy, it's hard to move that back around 11 months a year. Look at Safin, who is far better, and younger ...

Don't get me wrong, I love watching these guys with beautiful strokes. I loved watching Rafter, Pioline, Safin, and for different reasond, Ivanesevic, Sampras, greatest of them all, even if I rooted against him ... scoreboard ...

i think Roddick jumping and trying to climb the backwall to return Moya's overhead sums it all up. Roddick wanted it more, and fought hard.

Great match to watch.
