It's great she's playing at 8! She appears to be having fun too. She could be sitting in front of a Nintendo playing video games and getting fat like so many kids. Good for her!
Love her game. Keep working on that one handed backhand. She's close to getting it and hits it better than some of the 4.0s I play against. Once she's a bit stronger she'll be even more awesome. -Robert

But good job, she has good placement for an 8year old |

She's got a solid game. Only thing I see that should change quickly is that she really crowds that baseline. Congrats to her on the tourney win!

I think he means she's doing an Agassi and stands too close to the baseline or even inside the baseline. There's absolutely nothing wrong with standing inside the baseline on little girls' serves, but I think she realizes that as she gets older, she needs to move back on serve returns because her opponents won't be serving that softly. For now, she can stand inside the baseline on just about every serve return. I know I would.

From what I could see your daughter has a natural desire to take the ball as early as possible, do not discourage that. Nurture it as it is that ability that made Seles, Hingis, Agassi and Fed great. As she gets older she will naturally adjust to bigger hitters, but if she can consistently take the ball early, she will always have an advantage. Try working her on dividing the court, positioning and target practice, taking the ball as early as possible and just have fun. All the best for both of you. TennezSport

Again, your daughter amazes me. I really like the fact that her 1st and 2nd serve seem really identical. A lot of highschool JV players dink their second serves in, but she already developed a dependable second serve. If you think she is ready, I would suggest trying out kick serves, slice serves, etc. If she is able to master those serves at such a young age, she will be unbeatable

but for my little daughter, I have been teaching her flat serve since spin will need some extra power and she is weaker. she looks pretty good so far, she will play her first tourney in DEC, we will see how well she serve. again, thank you all for encouragement. |

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this thread. Yeah, Rickson described it. I only comment because she looks uncomfortable when hitting balls on the rise. She seems to mishit them. If she wants to do that, then encourage her. It just takes such incredible timing, and you don't see that many juniors can do that. Again, I only mentioned it because of the mishits. But hey: if she's winning 1 & 2 in the finals, don't pay any attention to me!! (I'm chuckling, but I am serious; people will always tell you what you're doing wrong: if you're winning, who cares!)
