Hi baseliner
there is a acamey over here who work with good up and coming juniors who would be very happy for you to come and help out with them, they have had uk and usa coaches in before, you maybe able to do some RPT coures when here too, which is the spanish coaching setup, let me know what you think and i can ask them if you like?

it is very hard to get a full paid coaching work here for you.the academy will be more than happy for you to help them, but they would only give you a little pocket money maybe and help you find a cheap place for you to stay.it may cost you some of your own money to do this but is the best way to come and look how its done out here, many like you have done this and had a great time learning.you may be able to get some hitting paid hours out of academy time but this depends on your playing abilty.if you want i can ask them when would be a good time to come?

I've done some work with Enrique and Fran who run the academy 'Elitennis' based at club de tenis Andres Gimeno. We ran an RPT course there last september and they are both awesome coaches, Fran especially has some great ideas for improving fitness both on and off court.

Hi Ash

I'm not following you around! Conincidentally I have been talking to someone in the past week about spending a month at that clubin March / April.

He mentioned that there are two academies at the club and he suggested that I go over, check it out and decide which academy to join.

I would be grateful if you could tell me anymore about the academies / club . set-up.

Thanks

Without wishing to blow my own trumpet (I'm an RPT tutor!!!) - it was awesome!

In all seriousness, having attended various courses as a delegate and now delivering courses as a tutor I can strongly reccommend the RPT as a coach educator. There is a high degree of technical teaching, but it is based on cutting edge video research rather than an outdated idea of technique (not having a pop at any other organisation!!!) along with error detection, squad teaching, Street Tennis, drill building, tactical teaching for singles and doubles, Spanish Academy drills and much more. It is all based around the spanish academy system - as you may know we trained the coaches at Sanchez-Casal, Equelite, Elite and many more.

Are you based in the UK? If so I can help you get a course sorted out.

Regards

Ash.

As far as I am aware: The club Andres Gimeno itself runs a coaching programme (which in Spain is generally called an Academy!!! It's all the rage out there!!!) with it's own coaching team and 'Elitennis' run by Enrique Guldberg rents 4 courts to run it's own Academy from the club. Elite is the full time academy and currently has about 9 full time players, about 4 from the UK, and others from Spain, Holland, Ukraine and somewhere else (I forget where!).

Elite also do holiday, weekly, monthly, termly academy packages. However, whilst I was there, Elite academy caters for junior players only.

Club de Gimeno however, have coaching clinics and classes for all ages and the standard I saw from the club players was pretty high - some good clay court tennis!!! You'd best contact the club for full details.

There is a nice hotel opposite the club called Hotel Barcelona Classic and it's only a 10 minute walk to the beach at Casteldefelles, which is stunning!!!

I wont take out a restraining order just yet!!!

Thanks very much Ash - I was offered accomodation in a shared house about 5 mins walk away.

Definitely sounds as though it's worth looking into.

hey guys, have been following the discussion on spanish academies.
Am a new zealand coach heading to europe this summer and looking to gain some more knowledge. have looked into doing a week long course at sanchez casal but it is quite expensive and some of the comments on the place arent great. anyone have any prior experiences here? or any better places to observe/ coach for a week or so?

cheers
