My eyes sometimes tear up and get really watery when I played tennis, especially when there is alot of wind. It causes me not to be able to focus real when and keep my eye on the ball. Anyone know how to solve this? I wear contacts.

Try sunglasses that wraparound some, but you will only get slight relief. It's partly the glare as well,I believe, and possibly an allergy this time of year.

Blink much? Not in tennis, but I notice when i'm playing an intense video game, I tend to NOT blink, which tears me up pretty quickly...

Oh, I have this problem (I also wear contacts). It is such a nightmare. Here I am waiting to receive and my eyes start watering, so I have to play the whole point with compromised vision.
I sometimes wear wrist bands even in cold weather (especially in cold weather!), which I use primarily to wipe my eyes between points. I think the problem is the worst in wind or sunny conditions. Hey, look on the bright side. I hear that having continually dry eyes is a form of slow torture.

Does this happen without contacts?
Sounds like it could be allergy related... Do you have an allergist or a standard care doctor that you can talk to? They can give you some samples of eye drops to try. That is, of course, assuming this type of thing applies to guys with contacts...

My eyes water alot as well and I don't wear contacts. I have allergies but usually only have symptoms on days where pollen count is high. I have the eye watering problem completely outside of the allergy season so I don't know if its linked. I always just thought my eyes were more sensitive than others so things like bright light or wind cause them to react.

If you start winning your matches, your eyes won't get so watery. I suggest you start playing opponents you can beat and don't play on windy days because the wind is contributing to your unforced error count. Start getting some wins and those eyes will dry up in no time!

Letting the tears flow alleviates the symptom.
Wiping them only makes the symptom worse and you will end up wiping them out after/during every point. |

What could be factoring in on this is that the wind is causing your eyes to dry out and then in return causes your eyes to overwater themselves. I would try a pair of shades as some other people have.
Also you would be surprised how much sweat gets in to your eyes from your forehead so maybe try a headband to soak up some of that moisture. Hope some of that helps! |
