Nadal has his taped as protection of his patelia tendon. He hurt it a while ago. Having tore both of my ACL's and repared in the last two years I can understand knee pain. If it's tendinitis staying off them with a good antiflamatory and ice. If it's bad knees have you seen a Dr and or had an MRI for complete diagnosis?

I feel your pain. I'm 32 years old and I've had 4 knee surgeries.

Of course it depends on your injuries, but my best suggestion is exercise. Get an exercise bike. Start off easy... the smooth motion of riding a bike helps keep the joint moving and also strengthens your muscles. The other thing you can do is light weight training. Start off with light weights or no weights at all. I've found lunges to be great for my knees. Strengthening the muscles around your knees will really help a lot.

Like the last guy said, see a Dr if you haven't already. After that, find a good PT.... they'll do wonders for you.

Feel your pain also.

I had knee surgery many moons ago and down through the years I have had lots of knee problems.

To be able to play 2 hours on any surface I use a cheap slip on knee brace and over that a decent hinged knee brace. Sounds crazy but it works for me. Also ice and Advil after playing.

Before I used this method and played without any bracing I would get up the next day and my knee would be swollen and very sore. Using my current method my knee isn't swollen and there is just a little soreness.

I had a little trouble adjusting to the extra weight but now I would feel naked without the bracing.

Good luck and also consider what the other posters advised.

I dont think that until you have experienced knee pain, or any other joint pains, you can really understand how painful it is, and how serious it is/can become.

i've been using support bandage/medical tape for the last couple of days wrapped just under my knee where the tendons hold the knee in place, just because my injury was tendon related and it felt like there was some slight soreness around the area, it does work!.. almost feels like the tendons are being held in place.. hard to explain but i feel more secure with my movement now. Still, i will note down all of your advice just incase.. thankyou dudes, means a lot that you take even a small amount of time to help!

This is really good advice. You want to strengthen your quads, hamstrings, glutes with joint pain free strength training. Doing the exercises really slowly helps.

Also, when you play tennis be very soft on your feet, like a cat, or Pete Sampras. This means to make sure you land on the balls of your feet first and not your heels when you run around, or the whole foot at once when changing direction. That makes the impact of each step much less jarring on your knees.

Shoes can have a surprisingly big impact on how your knees feel. There have been some threads on this topic, do a search if you have the time. I had developed tendonitis in both knees late last summer, changing shoes seems to have completely alleviated the problem over time. I switched from B4s to B3s. Others seem to recommend the Asics Gel Resolution shoes most often for comfort (I have not tried these yet). Hope this helps.

As you can see from my name I have knee problems. But about two weeks ago my orthopedic surgeon gave me a prescription of Naproxen and I have been pain free since the day I took my first pill. If these pills continue to work this well, I will be changing my name very soon. They have completely removed the inflamation from my knee joints and I am now bending and lunging like a new person. Tennis is now fun to play again and I am starting and stopping on a dime.

How is Naproxen on the stomach?

I'm using Nabumetone (not for knees, for PF). Magic stuff, that is. It doesn't require you to take food or drink with it. Still, all those NSAIDs make me so squirrely that I take it with food and drink anyway.

How old are you?

As a 16 year old - i get bad knee pain due to growth and placing tape underneath them supports the ligaments as nadal does. I gave some to a 70 year old who had pain in this region and he said it helped more.

It won't cure your knee problem by putting on tape but during sport it will offer support and not feel as uncomfortable.

The only way you will know though is if you try it..

good luck

I am 16 also.. i was born with weak ligaments around my knees and ankles anyway, so the tendinitis wasn't a huge surprise when it came up.

chris1992, can i ask if you're still growing at 16, i don't think i have had a proper growth spurt since i was 14... i do regularly get leg pains that don't feel related to my weak ligaments but im not growing at all, i feel like i should be taller and i play tennis like a taller person.. i even have a lanky body, im only 5'9.. but i have long legs. I cant figure it out myself :S
