Default amazing diet results

did anyone see this amazing diet study that was all over the news services today??

seems to make tons of common sense and the results are nothing short of staggering from what i can see........ it's out of venezuela which gave me alot of pause, but i see virginia commonwealth's name is attached, giving it some credibility.

http://www.news-medical.net/?id=39372 or you just google venezuela diet.

But the women who ate healthy high calorie big breakfasts continued to lose weight, shedding another 16.5 ponds on average and the researchers say that at the end of the study, the big breakfast eaters had lost more than 21 per cent of their body weight compared with just 4.5 per cent for the other women.

The study says that you have to go to a low carb diet after that though.

Eating a big breakfast won't just magically melt fat away....

Just a few weeks ago I got an upset stomach so didn't eat for 3 days. Lost 11 lbs.

i didn't realize that specifically, but i did assume that this is basically your new basic eating pattern. i wonder if i'll get really really hungry at night.

anyhow, gives alot of food for thought, although as i said earlier, it's pretty much common sense.

Well it's not really my eating pattern, I just saw the article too and looked up more stuff on it.

Think about it though, it makes sense. You "burn calories" because your body needs energy and other stuff. Something has to do that burning...and that's the metabolism. Just like a fire, starting the metabolism with a great first meal will ensure that it runs for a long time. Eating the smaller meals throughout the day ensures that the fire keeps going at a good rate which increases the calories burned.

If you don't eat..the body won't need to burn as many calories and, remarkably, will slow down the metabolism. Lessen your eating over time and your metabolism can go with it! That's why starving yourself is a bad idea.

But don't think that all calories are the same...

In what respect do you say all calories aren't the same. A calorie is a unit of energy - the amount of heat energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1 degree. Different constituents of food carry different amounts of calories (protein 4/gram, carbs 4/gram, fat 9/gram) but total in - total out is still the best measure of weight loss.

It's like banking, my bank manager doesn't care if I bank £100 in £10 notes or in one £100 cheque. My balance sheet still says £100 banked. The key is to know what you are putting into your body and know what you're taking out. Just like banking!!!

furthermore, consuming 500 calories of carbs (pure sugar for example) will be metabolized differently than consuming a mix of 500 calories of fat, protein, and carbs. Insulin, hormones, enzymes, etc. will respond differently leading to a different metabolic burn.

Prime example: pure sugar will spike insulin causing a fat storage mechanism to be invoked, by balancing the sugar with fat and protein, insulin production is greatly reduced, and fat storage processes less likely to be invoked
