Default Tights under shorts?

Does wearing tights (like biker/cycling shorts) under the shorts help or hurt ?
Do they help groin sprains?

I think they do. I wear deSoto compression shorts. Just make sure to take them off after you play and give the 'puppies' a chance to breathe.

Spandex under shorts? Those are so 80s! Just wear the huge modern day shorts. Modern day shorts fall below the knees anyway.

I've worn compression shorts since straining my left hamstring and quad, and so far, I've been able to avoid further damage. I don't know how much impact, if any, the shorts have had on my recovery, but I've made significant progress and the shorts are comfortable, so I don't see any down side to their use.

So why do we still call them "shorts"?

The idea is to wear long modern shorts over the compression shorts.

I've been wearing compression shorts for about 9 years now. I started wearing them because I kept straining groin muscles each time I played. Since wearing these shorts, I have not strained any muscles. I will not play without wearing compression shorts.

I've been wearing dri-fit/compression type shorts for a couple of years. They are much more comfortable that underwear. They wick the sweat away and keep you dryer - no more chaffing.

Because they're still shorter than pants.

So I take it that compression shorts are meant to replace the boxers/briefs? (Excuse my ignorance--I have never tried these compression shorts)

Man, I do not know how you guys do it in the hot weather. I wear long compression shorts from time to time in the winter (such as it is here in Southern California) but they feel so hot and uncomfortable in hot weather. I do like the Under Armor non-compression shorts though. They are somewhat supportive and breath really well.

The above web site makes a compelling case for using compression clothing. Being the technical person that I am I tried to look up the references cited on the above web site. I looked on Medline a database of about 6+ million medical articles and couldn't find either reference (author Brigard, A et al or Stephanie Perry in International Journal of Sports Medicine). Both were recently published in 2006, according to the above web page. If anyone has the exact reference (journal, volume and page number) for these above studies I would appreciate it.
