Default Ab Routine Online?

Anyone recommend an abs routine that is online? I'd like something that has clearly defined increments of reps/sets so that I know I'm on the right track.

Thanks

Sure they do. If you ever play a sport without a shirt on you'll notice that your abs flex with just about every move you make. Having strong abs, as well as a strong "trunk" or "core" is really important.

yeah but an ab routine? i dont think you need much more than maybe some leg raises and planks and maybe some type of twisting stuff. abs are worked on almost every type of compound lift you can do, and isolating them takes away from the fact that their purpose is to stabilize the body and transfer power from the ground up.

umm i think you explained why everyone should do ab exercises x_X.

for the simple fact that you do use your abs in pretty much anything athletic, its important that they are strong.

in track before and after the main practice we did a 800 meter warmup and cool down and after that we did 20+ crunches and bicycle crunches at the end of 2-3 months we were doing 40+ crunches and bicycle crunches after the runs.

you can also get a roll wheel (something like ab slide or pin wheel) and exercise with that. just an fyi you need to burn a lot of calories with running or swimming or something if you want a six pack, the ab exercises builds a good foundation but the fat will most likely still be there till you burn it off.

what im saying is that abs, in my mind, are involved so often that targeting them directly is not necessary for most people who do other weightlifting in a sensible way.

I think its a good idea to make sure they can do their job, but making up a routine to directly target abs seems like a purely aesthetic (and in regards to aesthetics, probably misguided) idea. would you also make up an entire low back routine? Or would you just do some back extensions? (similar things can be accomplished by deadlifting and romanian deadlifting, with better results)

Compounds hit a lot of things well, but abs should be isolated for best results. It's the same reason why calves should be isolated. Calves don't grow from walking, why would they grow from squatting? Sure, they're tightened when you squat, but that's nothing for them. They are very strong muscles, just like the abs, and very strong muscles must be isolated if you want them to get stronger.

yeah but most people would be better served to strengthen the main muscles. devoting the same amount of time to calves lifts as say, squats, wouldnt be that helpful imo

i really dont care what you do though, and if you want to find ab (and any other) axercises check out exrx.com
