I am currently on a college tennis team in West Virginia. When I started going the men's tennis was ok but not very good and I was able to play doubles. Then the team got many outstanding players and I wasn't able to play this year but i competed against one team in singles early in the season before the transfers were there. Am I eligible for a redshirt for that season?

ask your compliance officer. Usually there is a certain percentage of matches played threshold, but I believe you also must file for the redshirt prior to the end of the school.
Probably again best bet is to ask your school's compliance officer and also your head coach.

According to my Athletic Director while in JC tennis, if you served or recieved just one serve in a season you've used up a year of tennis eligibility.(therefore you can't redshirt) I'm not sure if that's different at your school but I highly doubt it is.
