That position is similar to when you are curling a dumbell. Your hand is pretty much in a fist facing you.

I'm sure she just used that grip for that high shot. It looks like the shot was a high topspin shot coming up near her head. She used that grip to get the best result.

I'd say it is one step further than an full western. If a heap of pro's were snapped in the same position they would all be looking slightly ahead of the ball. The example given is extreme tho, i would say she has turned her head slightly with the shot.
