maybe you got a bad batch. I just got some sampras damps in my last order and they are just as soft as the red ones.

by the way, put a "soft" red one in, then put your "hard" black one in. You will tell no difference.

The Red one definitely is softer, and to me, at least, it feels different (I've used these damps for about 3 years). The red one offers a crisper feel, IMO

I've never used the red ones. I just don't like the look of them. They look like red LifeSavers.

I've been using the black ones for years. Unlike some vinyl grommets, these ones just don't dry out and crack.

Since they don't wear out and don't fall out easily, a couple of them last forever. Besides, I was able to score like 10 packages on clearance at K-mart for $0.25 a pack a few years ago back when they came two black ones per pack.....

The thing I like about the "Sampras O's" is that they dampen less than most dampeners. It's not like they silence your stringbed like bigger ones or worm like dampeners.

Those that say they don't feel little differences just aren't sensitive enough.

BTW, I think rubber bands dampen too much.

watching a game with 2 buddies. they know nothing about tennis. I just gave them the black and red dampener. I asked them to describe the feel. Both said the red is softer and feels more like rubber and the black is harder with a plastic feel. They proceeded to ask me why would I waste my time with nonsense..they don't understand tennis, but they have common sense and both felt the red was softer.

NOTE TO ALL: I noticed something. The O's my buddies felt were new. I just noticed my 2 old, used for at least 6 months black dampeners are much softer than the newer black one. Maybe as they get used they soften, but the new black one is certainly stiffer than the new red one.

Does anyone else have a used older pair and a new out of the package pair??
Yeah, I noticed the same ting. The older packages had two different damps in it all most. The black was hard and stiff and the red was springy. The packages I bought four months ago had two springy ones, and the red and black were identical. Once I can post pics I can post a few to show what the black looks like. It is different. Like you noted Slappano it is all about which batch they came from.

We have an order min so you'd have to buy like 2000 and I'm not sure they're the same grommets. They look like the Sampras O's but are made of vinyl. We have them in a variety of sizes. You can PM me if you're interested.

I've tried those and I think they dampen too much, too.

I must like the old harder ones.

I also use these round black "tennis ball" ones from Wilson that came two in a pack with some packages of Wilson Ultra grip. There were yellow ones that came with the black grip, but I didn't like the look of those. These ones dampen about the same as the harder Sampras dampeners.

Do you feel that you get Crisper feel off the string bed with the red one ? if so i would prefer that. which one do you think is lighter.?

I have a bunch of the harder old black ones for my ps85s. I never noticed any difference what so ever as compared to the reds. I actaully tried hitting both when I got them as if you read the reviews in the tw page where you buy it from, some of the reviews say there is a difference. I never noticed it personally.
