I can hit winners on the run. I play with excessive spin and pace. I can hit a ball onto a dime on the other end of the court, my shots are consistent and I have very little unforced errors. My first serve isn't very powerful due to my loose shoulder disk/cup/thing(i need to work out to build tissue). My second serves are well placed and have good spin. I can use topspin lobs, drop shots, volleys well. I am a baseliner with hard hitting crosscourt shots. My biggest weakness would be my flat serve. I can't over extend my shoulder too much so I can't generate the pace i'd like. What would my ntrp rank be?

You sound at least 4.0, maybe 4.5 except your serve sounds 4.0ish. Best way to find out is to play others with a 3.5, 4.0, or 4.5 ranking. How is your footspeed? Do you hit many winners? Can you handle pace and spin yourself?

I would rate you higher based on your consistency and little unforced errors. The only thing that would hurt you is that you cant generate a lot of pace on the serve, but if you make it up in placement and disguise, I would go as high as 5.0 - 5.5. Obviously, all of your terms above are relative, I haven't seen you play.

I agree with BB, if you can hit winners on the run, have the accuracy to hit dimes on the baselines and are very consistent then you should be competing at the 5.0+ level. You dont need a cannonball serve since accuracy and placement will enable you to hold most serves. Ability to service return is very important since this is half of the game and being able to do all of your claims in match conditions is what really counts and will make the difference between losing at the 5.0 level and winning at the 4.0 level. I would also have to guess that since your not really sure of your level, then you are probably no higher than 4.5 and dont have much match or tournament experience ???

I played international junior tennis for three years but I haven't played in any american tournaments. how would i go about getting an official ntrp ranking here in the us? i figured i was about a 4.0-4.5 but I was looking for some other opinions. thanks for your help.
i thrive on spin and pace. my shots just go twice as hard when someone tries to lash a fast ball at me and i rarely shank my frame. i don't really hit as well when people hit softies at me. my footwork is really good. i hit most of my forehands with an open stance when the balls are not far away but i have a more closed stance when i have to move to the ball. yea, my serves are weak and i need to build up tissue around my shoulder before i can push it. |

What do you mean by international junior tennis?
If you were able to get an ITF ranking, then you would be MINIMUM 5.0 But most of the ITF juniors would be 6.0 But the easiest and truest answer is this, enter a tournament(if you played international junior tourneys...you could certainly start at 5.0). If you win, enter another at the next level. Continue until you lose! The only thing that confuses me is that in a previous post you said you hit with not much pace but a lot of spin. Now you say excessive pace and spin? |

What I meant is that I don't hit flat pace. My shots whipped up. My balls don't go @ 100mph but I rip them and the spin sucks them back to the court. |

I played tennis in the caribbean (Trinidad) from the age of 12 and travelled around with my coach and a few other players during weekends and the summer to other islands and sometimes to Florida. I stopped playing hardcore @ the age of 14 but I started playing four months ago a few days a week. What I meant is that I don't hit flat pace. My shots whipped up. My balls don't go @ 100mph but I rip them and the spin sucks them back to the court.[/quote] Ah I see. Well it sounds like you had a good start and some good experience, but then again you've only played a few years total, so it's hard to say! Of course, like i said, if you're interested in competition, why not start playing some tourneys? The worst that could happen is you are overmatched, in which case you can learn something from the experience or undermatched in which case you can just move up next time |

Hmmm, I haven't heard anybody else who claims that he can hit a target as small as a dime. I swear if you can hit a pizza on 8 out of 10 times you will be at least 5.5

4.5 at the min. Probably a solid 5.0. |

My favorite shot is the inside-out forehand from deep behind the baseline but I hit forehands wide when shooting down the line inside-out.
