The Maxply Fort was manufactured from 1932-1983. Last edited by vsbabolat : 02-03-2009 at 08:11 PM. |

It probably came out around 1962. Are you interested in selling it by any chance?

I posted this in the other thread.....not really info on the racket since it looks like a Dunlop Maxply Fort with additional decals. If you wanna know more about the racket, just search for the frame itself.
Just my opinion on Lew Hoad.... Quote:

Hi VGP,
Many thanks for the help n info, I will do a search for the man n the frame but all I got was info bout a regular Maxply not his personal model. I figure that they may play similar so I'm getting a couple of vintage Maxply off Fleabay to just really mash about. Laver said that in terms of talent n game, Lew was one of the very best and that's a lot from the tennis great. I've no doubt bout the strength of Lew n I'm going to do more research on the man. Cheers n info bout this personal model will be appreciated. mawashi |

VGP, you are absolutely right about Hoad - he was considered by fellow players at the time to be the best. It was a long time before he could beat Rosewall however!
I saw many of his matches (singles and doubles with Rosewall) in the 1950's. I had pinup photos of these two on my bedroom wall! I have Hoad's autobiography - it's very interesting and he himself had no idea why he would go "off the boil" at times for no apparent reason. We used to nickname him "Laconic Lew". |

Thanks for your input Virginia!
I would have loved to see those guys live at their peaks. I saw a legends' event in Cincinnati in the summer of 1990 and saw Laver, Rosewall, and others play. They could still hit great and got to see them really construct points. It was entertaining for sure. That was the read on Hoad though. Mercurial. His highs must have been great! BTW - haven't heard "off the boil" much since Fred Stolle left the international commentary booth.....

I have a friend who was on the tour in the early- to mid-Sixties and says Hoad was the best he ever saw.
