Should you only use bh slice with underspin only when you are late on timing or the ball is higher than your comfort zone? If not, when is the right time to use this stroke?

Well, i usually do a bh slice when the ball is above my comfort level like u mentioned and when i want to come to the net. Also, i f i notice that my opponents are having trouble with it, i will just keep on doing it.

my BH slice is my main backhand. i havent mastered a one handed backhand drive yet.
my bh slice is pretty nice though. barely get over the net and doesnt bounce higher than your knees. |

BH slice is good tool when you get a real low ball that you cannot hit with topspin because it is too low and your only option is too block it back or use slice and slice will be much more effective
