Default Ferrero's Chances Of Playing RG

I found this on the Eurosport website

Defending champion Juan Carlos Ferrero, plagued by rib and wrist problems, will make a last minute decision about his participation in the French Open, which starts on Monday. "My chance to take part in the tournament are less than 50 percent," Ferrero told a news conference.

"I'll make a decision on Monday. But it is possible I might pull out," he said.

The fourth-seeded Spaniard, who has been hampered by a wrist injury since the start of the sesason, pulled out of the Hamburg Masters earlier this month.

Rib pains also prevented him from training properly at Roland Garros earlier this week.

The Spaniard went to Spain on Saturday to attend the royal wedding and his return to Paris seemed to indicate he would defend his title.

But after training on Sunday morning, the Spaniard said he did not feel well.

Ferrero faces a tricky first round match against Germany's Tommy Haas, the former world number two.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Well, it's not the end of the world. He's young, he'll win another Roland Garros title, if not multilpe.

I'm a big Haas fan, so try going 5 grand slams in a row knowing he's out of the field, and 6 out of the last 7.

Plus, Ferrero woulda lost 1st rd if he does play. :P

So I'm guessing that he pulled out? I can't find an article, but did he?

No, he hasn't pulled-out. I believe he is actually using the injuries as an excuse to attend the wedding. That's why he wanted to be moved to Tuesday. I have no proof of this at all. It is just what I think. I also feel that once Juan Carlos comes to Paris and gets started, he will resume his fine clay-court form. His toughest match may be his first against Tommy Haas. Tommy is no slouch on the “terre battue,” and he will be a stern test for Ferrero because Juan Carlos lacks match toughness right now. Look for Juan Carlos to win in 4 or 5 sets, and if he does the rest of the field will know that the defending champion is back!

I say Haas is going to win in 4-5 sets, hes just going to be more mentally and physically ready to play this tournament THIS YEAR. Ferrero is an awesome player, but hes not gonna be about to do it. I can see Haas making the QF's....actually I have him projected to play Hewitt in the Quaters, and that is a winable match for either player

to be honest, at what point does it become inconsiderate to the tournament, it's directors, and the other qualifier players for Ferrero to keep delaying his decision to play.

I mean, it's now officially monday, day 1 of the tournament, and he still is up in the air.

if anyone in the tournament field that should get such consideration even over the french federation players, is the defending champion sadly.

I kind of hope he doesnt play, and cant defend all those points and watch him drop to the mid-top 10

um, do you have a link or anything confirming this?

the atp website and the official roland garros site do not have anything suggesting this.

Sorry to say man, but Ferrero is gone. I mean, I love the guy, but he hasn't played in 4 weeks, has a messed up wrist, rib, and is still recovering from Chicken Pox. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he loses first round to Haas. Infact, I'm quite sure he will....

Well I sure am happy that he won. Still though, I just can't see him going much farther than the quarters....

Why would being a true Ferrero fan affect your judgement on how well he will do? When you're a fan, you WANT them to win - but it doesn't mean you blindly assume they will.

I've encountered that attitude too much though...
