Default Nike iD tennis shoes

Nike's program for customizing their shoes and apparel has gone on for a few years quite successfully. They have shoes for basketball, football, baseball, running, track, and more. I personally think it's about time they start a Nike iD tennis section. Their sales would be huge; how many people on this forum would buy custom shoes??? I know I would!

plus Adidas has started their own form of Nike iD with barricades as one of their top sellers; Melanie Oudin and Sam Querrey both wore these shoes in the US Open.

Back in 2002-2003, they had an iD option when the Nike Breathe and the Vapors came out. After that they haven't given the tennis option.

Nike do it for a reason.

Like the USO 09' Federer day Vapor VI, they don't want to give the fans that option to make one just like it. This way, they can up the price to that $200 limited edition...

But that's only 200 pairs at $200. I would expect them to make it worth their profit margin by offering 2000 pairs

right. i hope you know that limited edition nikes are not exclusive to their tennis line.

there are many limited KOBE IV's out there and they are on ID. Nike simply puts a limit on the color combos most of the time so that you cannot recreate that exact colorway.

c'mon give what is one of the worlds biggest marketing companies some credit

Indeed, but it's "limited" edition, so it would sought out more in demand.

And they made more than 200 pairs...

Yep, as I used to collect retro Jordans...then they hike the price to $180 for one pair...

Not really started, they've been doing the miadidas service for years.

Nike would make a fortune, just like Adidas is making right now, if they made Custom nikes. I'd totally buy a pair or two immediately. I'd love love love to have a pair of Custom Ballistecs. I went online and made a pair of basketball shoes just out of curiosity and the process was even easier than miAdidas.

how about we all send tons of emails to the nike guys begging them to make custom Ballistecs and Vapors and maybe they'll see how popular they'd be! But we'd need alot of people to do it, it wouldn't be effective if only 5-6 of us did it.

When Nike ID first started they had some tennis options, even before the Breathe Frees. I'm thinking way back in the late 90's... But I could be off by a couple of years. I would like to see them bring it back!

Incorrect, on many of the basketball and lifestyle shoes you can recreate limited edition colorways.

Example is the AM90, for almost a year they offered the same black, grays, and infrared (pink) colors in the custom pallet that were featured in the quickstrike releases that same year.

yes and no. infrared am90's (my fav pair i'm a shoe head too) are retro'ed every so often because they were one of the original colorways of a classic. that is why you see am95 retro'ed with the trademark grey and neon green every so often just as the am97 is with the old silver, maybe a different swoosh occasionally. that is different than being able to re-create a pair of finals, MLK, kobe's etc etc.

even when you can re-create a colorway there is usually one distinguishable feature. for instance; you can re-create home and away kobe IV's which were limited exclusives to HOH's and some niketowns but, you cannot recreate the gradient toe that some of those limited colorways had.

i still miss my NIKE ID breath free's...
