My vote for the greatest shot, atleast in the 2000 decade, is the Federer tweener that went for a cross court passer by Djokovich in the USO SF. I believe it was also on match point ? Anyways, someone please post the utube link ... TIA

Yes, this overhead return down the line from almost out of the court, ie return of aRods smash overhead at the net, was spectacular. Andys reaction of throwing his racket cross court at Roger added to the amazement.

Imagine Nadal trying to pull off the "hotdog" Federer did at 5-6 3rd set 0-30 USO SF against world no 4...-Nadal would break his kness AND his back!
Federers "hotdog" is by far the greatest shot in the history of tennis.

The tweener Fed hit behind his back against Henman at the 04 US Open SF was amazing...I was at that match, too

You lucky ******* Are u a New Yorker drwood?
It was an awesome shot, Henman started laughing and didnt even try too get Feds backhand-pass on the next shot
But i still think the hotdog vs Djokovic is by far the best
Its a lot easier to do what he did against Henman imo

hehe . No I'm not a New Yorker, but it was cool to be at that match (although I was disappointed when Roddick lost before the SF -- I was hoping to see him vs. Hewitt)....also got to see the infamous Serena vs. Capriati match that year where Serena was cheated out of victory.

Great stuff! Do you see any similarities between the loud NYC-crowd and that some of the biggest "scandals" take place in USO? For example Feds mouthing with the referee and Serenas outburst?

Actually, I'd think that scandals would be more likely to happen at Wimbledon, b/c its so unexpected there. I think the US crowd can be a great asset if players don't let it throw them off (i.e. Borg, Edberg pre 1991)....see for example Federer 08, Roddick 03, Connors 91 SF run.

Fed tends to get chippy when he's losing in a big match -- especially if its not to Nadal -- so I don't think the US Open part contributed to that. Serena is very immature when she's losing matches she cares about, and since the US Open is the tourney she's always cared about the most, that probably had more to do with it than the fans.

I am a Fed fan, but:
that's my vote.. not even borg, chang, agassi etc.. would get to that volley. Its not the speed..its the instinct to get to that spot even before the volley was struck..

That's b/c he knows Fed's tendencies. But Chang or Borg would have gotten there in time to make the pass -- although probably not in time to half-volley it the way Nadal did.
