THE best match in my opinion is
Nadal def. Federer Wimbledon 2008 I've never been so emotionally involved in a match in my life. The quality of tennis was absolutely immense, it really was a rollercoaster. I couldn't move away from the television for one second, even though the match lasted that long. I can still feel the amazement and exhillaration even thinking about the match right now. Behind that match, there's a few that made a big impression on me: Federer def. Nadal Wimbledon 2007 Also high quality tennis, and the first real contest between the two giants in a Slam final. Safin def. Federer Australian Open 2005 The only player to beat a prime Fed besides Rafa, that says it all. His backhand was working like a dream in that match, and some sublimely attacking tennis from Safin. Nadal def. Federer Australian Open 2009 The first meeting between the two after that epic Wimby final, and we weren't let down. Federer def. Agassi US Open 2005 The level Federer reached in that match was unbelievable, hitting winners from all over the place. Although he still is the number one player in the world, I can safely say we have rarely seen that level of play from Federer the last two years. Nadal def. Verdasco Australian Open 2009 Outrageous hitting from both men. PS I haven't seen the Federer vs. Nadal match in Rome.. Was it that good? I will go and see if I can find a decent quality clip of that one on the internet somewhere...

i would rank that match as maybe #3 or #4 because it wasn't in a GS...but level of play is pretty much right up there with anything the last decade. |

nadal - verdasco was a phenomenal match as well with a very high quality level.
But aesthetically, i prefer federer - nadal or safin - federer because roger comes to net and it makes for more variation. i also believe nadal usually saves his best stuff for federer. he has to! |

Agreed. That was a jaw-dropping bit of excellence.

Fed v. Agassi US 04 (their 5 set QF)
This was a low quality match. Particularly the second day which was played in extremely gusty conditions. Ugly tennis. The first two sets a blow out for Blake, then for Agassi. The last set was good stuff. Not a classic. |

Opps, I was referring to Agassi-Blake. Overhyped that one.

That Ferrero-Kuerten in RG2000 was good.
