Don't think that's quite what he said. BTW, new avatar? Liked the old one better. But just my opinion.
I swear by the ASICS Res line not because it fixes knee problems, but because it seems to alleviate the discomfort that inevitably follows a hard 2 hours of tennis. It doesn't make the pain go away; it just makes it a little more bearable.

The Yonex 304s are another shoe to consider.
The 304 isn't much in the looks department but it's a really well-rounded shoe. When I first started wearing them I thought they were noting special. Over time I've come to appreciate the confidence they give me when I step on the court. The 304 is light (12.7 ounces - size 10.5), has good stability (not Barricade like), and feels comfortable (not pillow like). Traction is also good, while durability is mediocre. I no longer worry about my feet thanks to the 304s. EDIT: I just read more of the thread. If lot's of cushioning is near the top of your list, the 304 probably isn't the best shoe. What about GR2 on clay ?
I think all those reviews are from hardcourts...

Asics is the best athletic shoe manufacturer. By far. I had the Gel Resolution 1 and I'm now using the GR 2 and this shoe is OUTSTANDING! The cushioning, the comfort, and the feeling of the shoe are much better than with all other brands.
The only problem I see is the reliability on hardcourts. My GR1 wore out in about 3-4 weeks (I used it for over a year on clay in Germany before that) and Asics doen't offer any warranty. Nonetheless, I think if you only play once or twice a week the shoe still might be reliable. When I used the GR1 on hardcourts, I played 5-6 times a week. Believe me: Once you put your feet in an Asics shoe, you don't want to use anything else anymore. It fits like a second skin on your feet.

The GR2 are not as narrow as the Barricades. They have a surprising amount of support given how light they are. The uppers are a quality synthetic / leather combo that aides support but yields flexibility.

Tennis magazine said they tested Size 9 shoe and the weight they came up with was 13.5 oz for GR2. not sure it might be too heavy with orthotic inserts in there...?

Interesting video on Asics and their shoes. Also the Gel which is also in the GR 2's.

ASICS Corporation started life as Onitsuka Co., Ltd. on September 1, 1949. On July 5, 1958, we amalgamated with a sales subsidiary, Tokyo Onitsuka Co., Ltd. which was originally a manufacturing subsidiary, toand become Onitsuka Co., Ltd.,. Following this, on June 1, 1963, Onitsuka Co., Ltd., absorbed into Chuo Sangyo Co., Ltd. (established on May 27, 1943, and renamed Onitsuka Co., Ltd. on June 1, 1963), which was on a break in business at that time, in order to change the per value of the stock from 500 yen to 50 yen. Thereafter, on July 21, 1977, the new Onitsuka Co., Ltd. merged with GTO Co., Ltd, a manufacturer of sports wear and goods, and JELENK Co., Ltd, a manufacturer of sports wear, and became the present ASICS Corporation. Since this major merger, ASICS has grown into one of the leading sporting manufacturers within the industry. |

^^that maybe true, but Asics isn't exactly the leading seller of Tennis shoes in US of A. They are lesser known than the New balance shoes. What is their market share in US ? like 2-3 % if at that....???
