Default NG mains - poly cross: pingy sound, vibration?

I put a hybrid of Natural Gut (one of the cheaper ones) and SPPP 1.18 in my K90.

This is the first time I use NG, except for a used racquet I bought once that was strung with it, but that was a long time ago.

I have the impression the NG is really a soft string, but for some reason, when I put it in play, the combination is really pingy and even seems to cause unwanted vibration.

I think it is because of the poly, and much regret now to have combined the NG with it.

BTW tension was 57 for the NG mains and 52 for the SPPP 1.18, so not incredibly high one would say.

I just hope somehow the poly sets in, so it allows me to enjoy the NG a little.

What is your opinion about it, what makes this combo so pingy and vibrative?

^^^ No clue. Natural gut is very soft. As for the "pingy" sound, try a dampener to mute it.

I do use a vibration dampener. I guess it must be the thin poly.

Could it be that thinner guages have a more pingy sound?

^^^ Cut out the poly and restring the crosses with the other half of the gut. As long as you haven't played it much beyond a couple of hours you should probably be ok. At a minimum, it will answer your question about the ping.

Problem is: it was only half a set of NG. I do think that hybriding it with a syn gut like forten sweet, of which I have some left might be a better idea.

AVOID CUTTING ANYTHING OUT !

I have the solution.

1. Install 24-32 Babolat Elastocross strings savers around the sweetspot and in the sides and upper half of the stringbed. This will take most if not all the ping sounds away.

2. If the stringsavers don't work for you, then users a vibe dampen or an elastic band - this for sure will remove the pingy sounds.

3 . String the Natty gut @ 60 lbs and the SPPP @ 56 lbs next time.

4. Use ear plugs, while playing - just kidding

I used to use a gut mains, poly cross in a k90. I never had any ping sound in this set-up. I strung them low to mid 50's with a rubber band dampener.

As for cutting out the crosses and restringing with the same mains, in general this is NOT recommended, The reason I suggested it was it sounded like you were ready to bail on the set-up and only had 1 hitting session on the bed. My suggestion was merely a way in which you could identify which string was causing the ping sound.

Playing with ear plugs? I don't know about you but I find there is a lot of information available from the audible aspects of the game, including ball contact, spin, pace.

Thanks for the suggestion.

1) I would think this is the best solution, but I am wondering where I could lay my hands on string savers, it seems that the tennis shops in the area I live don't have any.

2) There is already an O-dampener on the racquet. In my experience, and I even did some comparative experiments, both the O-dampener and the simple elastic band, are the best dampeners and should take away all of the ping, but in this case it does not.

3) Why would you think that upping the string tension would be better? I now have the NG at 56 and the poly at 52, the same differential you suggest, only 4 lbs lower.

4) LOL. I will tell you though that I find this very strange. I have even played with the kevlar-poly hybrid this racquet came strung with or my friend's K90 with full poly and they all made this solid thud at contact, whereas the current stringbed is just very strange. It feels harsch and resounds. I am really without a clue as to what could be the reason.

I am not going to cut anything out, I will give it another try and hopefully next time it is better, maybe the poly needs some break-in time.
