I think Nadal and Toni finally realize there's a problem and are currently retooling his game. They are working on his serve and flattening out his FH (finally!).

They also need to improve his transition game and sprinkle in some S&V play to keep certain opponents off balance.

But will it be enough for another HC slam? He was lucky that Murray, Dle Potro, and Djokovic underperformed at AO this year. Verdasco played great in the semis, but at the end of the day, he's still just another of Rafa's Spanish buttk1ssers. Competition on hardcourts will be much tighter next year.

Since you have it all figured out Gugafan, just go ahead and tell us the winners of the 4 slams next year. You know...since you know so much.

Guga fan? How do you know? I am, but how do you know?

But really, he had a little bit of luck, you must admit. I mean, Verdasco is still a Spanish mental midget, and Federer tends to crumble when he plays Rafa.

I wouldn't bet on Rafa against Del Potro or Djokovic on hardcourts, even slow ones like Australian.

I fully expect Nadal to become #1 again in the near future. Fed is still a huge contender at the slams, but Nadal is more consistent at the MS events and he has won at least one slam a year in the last few years. I still think Murray could suddenly become a threat to both guys in terms of slams, I think it's about to happen. 2010 looks interesting indeed.

Let's face it. When Nadal and Fed are not in God Mode, and they face up against someone who goes for everything and it goes in, like Benneteau, Soderling, and DelPotro, the chances of losing are very high. You notice what happens to those players in the next round or next tournament? They all lose miserably. If nothing else it is consistency over the entire year that keeps Fed and Nadal in the top 2. They both have their bad losses, but no one else can beat them consistently over the entire year.

Nadal beat the two best players after him in the AO, Fed and Verdasco. Everyone else was playing worse than them. Nadal beat the best to deservedly win the AO. He didn't get a cakewalk draw like Fed in FO and W.

I disagree, his forehand has taken a step back imo. He tries to flatten it out less than before the FO. He missed some easy sitter forehands today after working the points pretty good.

Wrong, Nadal won the butt-kicking championships. He was kicking butts before his injury,Federer's butt included.
