Default hyogen's acoustic cover of Simple Plan - I Can Wait Forever

Hey y'all. Haven't been posting on these boards for a while...a lot has happened in my life. My girlfriend of almost 4.5 years broke up with me, lost my job a week afterwards... It's been almost a month since the breakup...and I can honestly say this has been the most difficult time in my life. The job is secondary...I was gonna marry this girl.

yeah...

I've really needed to lean on my friends lately...some have let me stay on their couch for a week straight, watch an average of 2-3 movies per night with me. Eat out with me, sacrifice their time for me, etc... Night time was the worst...and is the worst. I'm just finally starting to get out and about again...thank God for friends and family.

Been playing some tennis at 7:45AM also and have been very happy with how I've been playing. Been eating better, getting better sleep, etc.

You can't tell in this video, but I actually have lost 10lbs...and it's improved my tennis footwork noticeably. I still need to lose at least 20-30.

Just decided to do an acoustic cover of a song...and this is what I came up with:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uGSLQRxV4A

I REALLY need to improve my ability to sing and play at the same time.. but here is my first effort for an acoustic cover.

maybe you can hear the angst in my voice....

EDIT: I'm gonna redo this to make it less artifically raspy/hoarse sounding.. here's a little preview of my next cover. I dunno why I'm in a Simple Plan phase right now:

Well, that sucks but such is life at times.

You have just gone through a classic bout of depression. Sounds like you are coming out of it. Time heals most, if not all, wounds.

Another (better) girl(s) will come along. Perhaps, you have now learned not to put all of your emotional eggs in one basket which is a good lesson that will serve you well in life. Be glad she flaked on you prior to getting married. Much less complicated this way.

Hey, thanks for the nice words and encouragement. I think I may have overdone the raspiness a little...but it wasn't hard cuz my voice was tired.

it's a little complicated...she is younger and trying to find herself. She's also recently found God and she believes that God wants her to be single...........that, and her parents don't think I'm a suitable breadwinner or husband-material... -_- basically I'm not a doctor or dentist....

Sup2dresq will probably come in here and quip that she left me because I started loving my rabbit more than I loved her. hahah -_-

Yes, I think I went through all those different stages of depression...not sure which order but...depression, anger, frustration, etc etc...
I hopefully HAVE learned that lesson (all emotional eggs in one basket), but I think you're right about it's better that this happened before we were married.

Wow! That is a great line. I used a bunch of stupid reasons to break up with girls who I had grown tired of, but never "God wants me to be single." That is brilliant! ;o)

Her parents must be Chinese or Jewish. ;o)

I think you dodged a bullet, dude. She's not sounding so great from here.

Yah seriously. That line is pretty funny (apologies to hyogen). How can you argue with God? Somehow I think her parents may have influenced her more than God did, but in any case you are probably better off without her. BTW I don't know how old you are but there's a huge difference in dating women in their early 20s and ones in their 30s. The later group will be the ones pushing you to get married.

wow thanks man

I think i overdid the raspiness though. most of my friends are saying it sounds too unnatural. I'll redo it sometime when I improve my guitar (hopefully soon).

here's a cleaner song (just a preview of a cover I'm gonna do)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScVrTCnTpCc I'll put it on the first post also

I wouldn't reduce the raspiness at all, worked really well from this end.

Dude, really nice, and Im a very critic person when it comes to singing And, coming from a fellow g-player, you play it nice too, keep it up. Thats a sweet guitar, sounds great! Maybe I'll have the nerve to post a vid of me one of these days.

You've improved a lot in your singing since the last time I heard. I actually like the more raspy sound myself. The over polished singing where they get a computer program to jack with someone's voice is far too prevalent these days.

sweet man! that's what I struggle with the most - the guitar and singing at once. definitely post a vid The guitar...i got it used for $150. Hohner, which is a cheaper maker, but it still has a solid spruce top. I may have a professional custom tune it by replacing the bit and the saddle (I think that's what it's called) and leveling all the frets.. will cost over $200, but it will sound better than most of the guitars at the stores. I've heard/played some of his demos and he can make a really cheap guitar sound and feel amazing

did you hear my 2nd vid? It's a little less forced in my opinion, but I also should have sung it a half step lower.

ah, thanks. I was trying to remember back on what song you would have heard. It's now available on iTunes (matthew tavis johnson - my angel ...in his new Dark album). there were definitely some filters and polishing that went on in making of that song using a computer program. My friend pays a guy like $100/hour or so to record and fix everything

Dude, nice video. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry to hear the bad news of your struggles. Trust me, things will get better with time. Many lessons to be learned from such experiences. One that is obvious right now is you have some good friends. And that is a direct reflection of who you are. Gotta value those who have your back!
