If a client shanks a ball and breaks the string in a short time,(which can happen to nat. gut, especially to someone who shanks a lot), and you feel obligated to do a freebee, how long will that take you to recoup.Nat. gut takes longer to string, as you have to take precautions, have a good $ inventory of gut( I sometimes have over a $1200.00 inventory of just nat. gut, so you have a $ investment, time, your equipment. I charged more for that in labor over 40 years ago.
I guess everyone knows what their time is worth,so to each their own.
Yeah, I do effectively charge less for labor for gut string but I like working with round numbers. VS does now cost $42.00 before any shipping or sales tax as well but I don't have many players that use gut. I'm not too concerned with someone snapping their gut because of a shanked shot since the gut players I string for are fairly good players. Maybe I have been lucky since no one has ever asked for a free gut re-string. If someone did request a free gut re-string after a shanked shot I would probably do it once and politely decline from doing any gut stringing for them in the future if they asked.

That's the average going rate in NYC, LI, Westchester, and Bergen County.

Basically, you get what you pay for.
