You're right, I made up the idea that Stanfordites resent the attention that Harvard, the perennial "#1 University in the Nation", gets on a continual basis.

Well actually, Stanford and Harvard has a very healthy respect for each other. i don't think there is any envy per se.

Sure, I'm cool with that, provided you know what fields (branches) Harvard is #1 in.

Harvard is a _great_ school for medicine, law and business and basic sciences.
Engineering -- not so much (In that respect, Stanford is nearly synonymous with Silicon Valley).

Don't get me wrong, Harvard is nothing extra special in reality. It just gets the press for being #1. The US News and World Report annual college "rankings" as discussed on the 5 o clock local News is about the depth of understanding of this by the average citizen.

Just returned from Stanford reunion/homecoming last month - seems like everyone I knew had gone on to Harvard for biz school.
