Post Another.........

There is another post on this but here is what I just received from the USRSA Daily News.

Quote:
Novak Djokovic is expected to be unveiled as the new face of Sergio Tacchini tennis this weekend as the world no.3 bids farewell to adidas who has clothed the 22 year-old Serbian throughout his career.

The Italian company is determined to regain a foothold in the top flight tennis market after falling from prominence after the likes of John McEnroe, Pete Sampras and Gabriela Sabatini ensured that their styles and trademark was one of the most recognizable on the show courts of the world.

Currently the highest profile players on the Sergio Tacchini roster are Spain’s Tommy Robredo and the giant Croatian Ivo Karlovic. But Djokovic, whose deal with adidas was unlikely to be renewed following the recently announced a five year 5 million dollar-a-year deal with world no.4 Andy Murray.

Several other companies, most notably K-Swiss, were known to be in the hunt for Djokovic’s signature but the player has close links with Italy after spending several of his formative years training under coach Riccardo Piatti.

Djokovic, who controversially swapped rackets at the beginning of this year, ditching his tested Wilson for a much more lucrative deal with Head, and then admitted to suffering the consequences for several months, will conclude his adidas contract next week as he defends his title at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at London’s o2 Arena.

The last time Sergio Tacchini featured in a major triumph was Goran Ivanisevic’s memorable Wimbledon win in 2001 but many well-known tennis players from the 1970s and 1980s such as Jimmy Connors, Vitas Gerulaitis, Ilie Nastase, Mats Wilander, McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, Sergi Bruguera, Pat Cash and Martina Hingis besides Sabatini, Sampras and McEnroe wore the clothing with pride.
Cheers, TennezSport

I think he should have stayed with Adidas. I assume though he will still be using the Geniuses though

It is not a question of Tacchini outbidding adidas. It is more likely a case of Tacchini really wanting to sign Djokovic and adidas figuring it was he was not worth chasing and/or what he wanted was greater than what they were willing to spend. I wonder what brand of shoes he will wear with his Tacchini clothing.

This is awesome. Hopefully well see some nice designs from ST. Ive always liked smaller companies like ST and Fred Perry and Lacoste more than nike/adidas for clothes. I wonder what shoes he will wear as well.

Sergio Tacchini and Fila used to make the very best tennis clothes around. Their combed cotton shirts were sublime. I think it's a smart move by Djokovic and a good pick if he's moving away from Adidas, though I also like Adidas clothing/shoes.

How about: no bidding at all?! Maybe there was only one buyer? Maybe Adidas decided to let him go...

Apparently adidas isn't prepared to even consider renewing the contract at current cost, as they have spent millions on Murray. That is what is confusing to me. They'll regret THAT decision I'm confident.

I feel the same. Adidas always liked characters (Safin, Djokovic...) but Murray is everything but character. He is so boring just like his game...

The Lama mentioned this in a Volkl racquet thread over a week ago. His posts were deleted. Looks like he was right.

What shoes will he wear?

And paying anyone, especially Murray, 5 million dollars a year to wear your clothes is OBSCENE!! He should be lucky that anyone would just give him free clothes to wear.

well, branding/adverstising is always expensive.. just like the cost of a 30 second advertisement during the superbowl, its ridiculous, but the sales these guys make as a result of the pros wearing their clothes, 5 mill isnt all the much in comparison.. obviously the companies wouldnt be doing it if they were making alot out of the deal

Yes, I know, but I really don't think Adidas will make an additional $5 million profit per year (not sales but profit) just because Murray is wearing their tennis clothes. First of all, the high-end tennis clothing market is not that huge compared to other clothing markets. Second, how many tennis players will switch from Nike (or whatever brand) to Adidas or run out and buy a ton of Adidas tennis clothes just because of Andy Murray?

BTW, they just mentioned this Tacchini/Djokovic deal on Tennis Channel so it must be true.

Sergio Tacchini has great stuff. Very high quality and a great tennis history. Good to have a high profile player getting their stuff out there and making their tennis line a major priority. A nice change from the norm - Nike and Adidas. Well done. Will be nice to see Djokovic sporting the ST logo.
