Whenever I see him play, I always think he's not using his talent properly.

he brings incredible energy to the court and the fact that he's in the discussion goes to say he has won a lot of attention from people! what he's created his own style of play and for that he stands out and you have to give him credit for that

Sure, but he could be a lot better imo, especially because his serve is pretty good, he could follow that up a bit more. He could grind out the returngames.

Can't stand Monfils. He's the one guy that if he's playing Nadal, I will actually root for Nadal. Man he was acting like a jackass in there US Open match. He's out there rapping to himself, acting like he's all hard. Somebody needs to tell him that he's not a gangster from South Central LA, he's a rich tennis kid, from France.

Monfils actually acts like he cares out there.
you cant compare Safin breaking racquets and yelling to Monfils jumping around the court like a circus-monkey.
Safins bahavior makes him cool, Monfils behavior just makes him a clown..
actually I would love to see Safin break a racquet over Monfils head.. bet he would love

Or a hooligan from Marseille, or one of the Boulonge Boys from Paris.

Safin doesn't look cool cursing to himself and crashing racquets, he looks crazy. What does Monfils do that is so bad? God forbid we actually have an exciting, charasmatic tennis player, not another boring headcase. (Not saying Safin is one, just saying he isn't the God his fans try and make him out to be).

How anyone can defend Almagro after the ultimate shame of last week I will never know. The guy should be forced to retire from pro tennis.

Give me Monfils over Almgaro anyday. An insane athlete with amazing speed, leaping ability, agility, flexability; one of the best serves and forehands in the game, someone who has personality and atleast tries to entertain some out there, and who while no Nadal in the mental toughness category atleast is adequate and miles beyond the historic choking dogs like Almagro that seemingly flood todays game.

By the way do you really think Almagro has a gameplan out there, LOL! He is just as devoid of any strategy or awareness how to construct points as Monfils, in addition to being 10 times the choker, and having a weaker game without Monfil's athleticsm or weapons (the Monfils serve and forehand are still bigger weapons than the Almagro forehand and backhand).

Safin's extreme popularity with the masses is almost as much a complete mystery to me as say Sabatini's and a younger Agassi's.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? You can only be a hardman if your a gangsta from LA? A member from Paris Saint Germain's firm would kick the living sh.it out of a "gangsta" from LA.

Almagro isn't much of a tactician either but atleast he hits plenty of winners and has one of the strongest one handers in the game.Monfils is the closest in pro tennis to a pusher I've seen, much more than Murray(who people constantly call like that)who uses placement and varies pace and spin to throw opponent's rhytm off while 95% Monfils just runs down balls like crazy and puts them back in service line.

Yes he has a big serve but even though he can hit a big FH he does that once in a blue moon while Almagro is going all out on his groundies most of the time.

I admit I'm biased but I always like to watch players who have a strong one handed BH(who can really rip it off that side) like Wawrinka,Almagro,Guga,Kohlschreiber,Pioline etc.

And yes Almagro is probably the mentally weakest player I've ever seen but I still find his game much more enjoyable to watch than Monfils.

Monfils is like the Terrell Owens of tennis. Fairly good talent, but his mouth and antics push him back down below the best. He just doesn't know when to knock off the showtime and actually concentrate on the win. The last thing I ever want to see is football and basketball antics on the tennis court.

On the upside, he can fly:
HOLY CRAP!!! I wish I could fly

I understand your points but note...

Monfils provides us with great diversity in tennis. Even though he appears to be immature at times, but he gives the court and audience something others don't. While many other players look and behave the same, curse, smash rackets, argue with umpire, stay aloof or even challenge the crowd, Monfils goes out of his way to provide entertainment for the fans. Monfils' athleticism is aimed at the crowd and is selfless, and that makes it sweet.

It's just nice to have something different.
