BTW, although I've never been to Italy, I've heard that the pizza in New York is better than the pizza in Italy.
I don't know where you were eating but as they say "you get what you pay for", if you want top quality food you have to go to a top quality restaurant. Also there are some dishes in China that are served in oil, so maybe you are just ordering the wrong thing.

I find non-natives who throw around the few words of a foreign language that they know, to be pretentious fools. I know the type. I've met a few here in Japan-and have managed to put some of them in their rightful place. Believe me, it's not news that you can mumble or scrawl a few words of another language.

If I insulted you, then you have a very thin skin. Must be all those chicken feet that you're eating. You, on the other hand, have thrown around quite a few words meant to be insulting-though you're harmless to me.

Anyway, it's clear that you lack the palatte (and I'm not talking about the Naked Chef here) to distinguish between decent food and slop. You ARE from Scotland and that might explain a few things. Haggis and deep fried Mars bars...so yeah, I guess ANYTHING you shove into your pie hole is gonna taste pretty yummy.

Not that it's any of your business, but I've actually been studying Chinese for the best part of a year and half, and know well over 2000 characters, and speak, read and write quite fluently. You sound like a deeply unpleasant person, but it's no surprise that you fit in quite well in Japan, it's also no surprise that you think Chinese food is bad, because Japanese food is really terrible. Trust me I've spoken to Japanese people here who said the Japanese food in Shanghai is much the same as the Japanese food in Japan, and that really is sloppy joes at it's best, but then you're probably an American so you can't tell the difference between plastic and real food.

This is hilarious. 'nuff said-my pretentious fool remark to describe you is more relevant than ever. Man, can I call 'em or what? Go look-up the word "fluent". 100 to 1 that you aren't even in the ballpark on that-not after such a short time.

What's that supposed to mean?

What does Japanese food have to do with this discussion, junior? And if you go down the list of people who agree that the food on the mainland is slop, just in this thread, you may realize that we're on to something.

I don't trust you on this.

Well, many Americans can't. I can.

Ninman's attempt to "defend" China's Chinese food in order to show how "impartial" he is towards China is just pathetic.

I actually think the Japanese food in Japan is quite good, not that you can't also get good Japanese food in the U.S.

I think the difference between the Chinese food in China and the Japanese food in Japan is the attention to quality and freshness. Not as much in the former as in the latter.

Whatever dude, some people learn faster than others. I know a guy whose been learning Chinese for 7 months and he's already at HSK level 6 or 7, I won't be there for at least another 6 months or so. I didn't say I was fluent, I just said I speak quite fluently, meaning that I can hold my own in conversations for the best part of an hour or more.

Well what do you expect from a developing country with over 1.3 billion people? Not every restaurant in town can afford completely fresh ingredients. China is a bigger country than the whole of US, Europe and probably several other countries combined. Anyway, as I said you get what you pay for, if you only want to spend 30p on a meal then you cant expect top quality nosh, but as far as ordinary restaurants go, they don't differ from the UK substantially at all.

The thing is, in Japan, you can go to a hole in the wall tiny noddle shop (soba-ya) and still get great soba or ramen or udon.

I've been to some of the most expensive restaurants in China (as a foreign guest of local companies), but generally when it comes to Chinese food, the more expensive and authentic it is, the less I tend to like it.

BTW, remind me never to go to a Chinese restaurant in the UK.

Yes well China isn't exactly up to speed when it comes to things like hygiene, also people don't open restaurants in China because they happen to enjoy cooking, they do it to make money. The difference in attitude means that Chinese people will use less good quality ingredients to make more profit.

Also, yes Chinese restaurants in the UK SUCK, OMG they are god awful, so yes, never go to a Chinese restaurant in the UK.

Yeah, whatever dude. You're no different from some of the other nitwits on this board-the kids who say they're 4.5 or 5.0-level tennis players after playing for a year or year and a half. Those of us who actually PLAY the game (and those of us who actually SPEAK an Asian language) know better.
