Default using lux with TE

Hi Im 16, I use wilson Sensation 16 at 55 lbs in my k90. I Got tennis elbow 5 months ago and have been battling it ever since, In the last couple of months It has dramaticly decreased, I play every day for 2-3 hours after school and 2 hours on saturday and sunday, and on fridays a total of 6ish hours, 3 and a half after school and 2 and a half at an indoor facility a few hours later, I take IB profen and it takes away about 80% of the pain, and I have a brace that takes care of the other 20%. so now to get to my question, I need to get alot more spin in my game, I use an eastern forehand and 1hbh grip and I was thinking of using a full lux BB ALU Rough or a full BB Origional Rough bed at around 53. do you think this would be murder on my arm, or do you think I could use it with little or no pain. Any input would be appreciated

I wouldn't touch Lux if I were you, it's known to be the toughest on the arm. If you must try a poly, start hybridding with a comfortable one like PolyStar Energy or Topspin Concept Pure. Those are real easy on the arm.

I have already used signum pro plasma hextreme and it didn't hurt my arm, which i was surprised to find out, because i accedently forgot my IB profen and my brace.

do you stretch before you play? you should loosen up your arm and shoulders before you play, because the shock should be absorbed by your shoulders, so when you don't loosen them up it goes your arm. wilson sensation isn't a stiff string at all, so i don't know how u can get tennis elbow from that.

If you have TE, I would avoid all polys.
Try some other multis other than Sensation to see if they work any differently for you or try some different tensions with your Sensation.

TE at 16 - sheesh, take a complete break for a while.

And yes I think you should avoid the Lux, btw Fed is sub-50lbs with his poly so if you do do it, then consider BELOW even 53, and also a lot of people don't do ply full bed but rather hybrid so that loosens and softens up the feel.

An eastern grip won't give you a ton of spin, no matter what strings you use. Spin is produced by your technique, specifically whether or not you brush up on the ball at impact. Work on your technique, and don't touch lux. It's extremely harsh on your elbows.

Sensation (IMO) is not the best of strings for spin. Try a 17 or 18g multi, work on your technique, and then get back to us.

IMO, if you REALLY want to try lux, go 48 and lower. At 53, lux can still be very stiff, depending on the racket.

I got TE from my buddies racquet (N95) and he had wilson sythetic gut at 60 lbs, I was playing in the state team tennis tournament and broke a string and didn't have a backup at the time, I used sensation at 60 lbs before I got TE and have just lowered the tension, The reason why I have been using sensation is that because my coach strings my racquets and he just puts sensation on every racquet he strings for the kids on my HS team, Idk why. I do have proper technique and to try to get enough spin as posible, Im about a 3.5-4.0 S&V player. and my TE is about a 2 on a scale from 1-10 and only acts up on my serve, but before I lowered my tension it was about 8-9 out of ten, at its worst I couldn't hold anything tightly in my right hand. Before I play I strech out my shoulders and legs and back, so Idk if that matters.

16 and TE? geez.......I would have someone take a long hard look at your technique. Hit with a laid back wrist and use a 2hand backhand if possible. And take Ibuprofen AFTER you play.....not before. Studies have show taking it before you have pain or inflamation hurts you more than helps you. Stay away from Poly. Technique will get you spin MUCH faster than Poly. Maybe try switching from Eastern to Semi Western grip. Keep turning that right hand under the grip a little more each time you play until you find something that gets you more topspin and doesn't feel too uncomfortable. Really concentrate on hitting low to high and brushing up on the ball.
Most importantly...WORK ON TECHNIQUE!

People always say lux gives them tennis elbow. I've been using it for 5-6 months without problems yet...

Should you try it? No.

Your getting TE with sensation which is extremely soft compared to lux.

I got TE for the first time after about 7 months of using my first poly, so don't think you're completely off the hook.

It's a cumulative thing with the problem only surfacing over time - I believe my two bouts took upwards of 8-12 months to occur then recur if I remember correctly. You only need to have it once to not forget it again.

AVOID LUXILON STRINGS, if you have elbow pain !

Lot's of guys use Luxilon, but They don't have TE OR GE and they have proper technique.

My advice - if your coach can give you Sensation for cheap do a hybrid with Sensation and a softer CoPoly - one hybrid with Sensation mains and one with Sensation in the crosses and experiment with tension levels until you find one you like.

Consider TECNIFIBRE BlackCode, SIGNUM Hyperion, SIGNUM Tornado, WEISS TurboTwist, Silverstring or a MSV HEPTATWIST as your CoPoly.
They play and feel much softer than Luxilon alu power or ROUGH feels and have far better elasticity maintenance.

And go low in tension with the CoPoly. Sensation is a soft string, your technique is where you should start looking for the cause of your pain not the string. Maybe try cutting down on the tennis a bit until your elbow is better feeling.

my te only acts up when I serve, if I just go out and hit my arm doesn't hurt, so I think it's my technique on my serve. I think it comes from when I swing on my Kick serve, because I sort of whip my arm up to get enough spin.

I would not change strings if I were you. If you have a sensitive arm it would be a lot better to stick with what you know.

Spin comes much more from technique than from your strings.

If you have TE at 16, you might not be destined to play every day. Try to stop a full week and when you return to play, only groundstrokes and volleys, no serving for another week.

See if there is anything you can do on your serve to reduce the movement that causes your TE.

BTW, I think you are right about the cause of your problem: it comes from your exaggerated kick serve motion (I used to do the same thing). Part of it is inevitable and inherent to the serve motion itself, part can be changed by using the legs more, changing the toss, and maybe even weighting your racquet differently.

Watch out with antinflammatories. Don't take them for a long time.
