I am thinking about trying out a hybrid of Xcel and Pro hurricane (normal one). Has anyone ever tried this, or should i just go with the pro hurricane tour?

i have always preferred the normal pro hurricane in a hybrid since it holds tension MUCH better and almost never breaks. i also prefer its playability. never tried this hybrid but it should last longer with normal pro hurricane aswell!

Xcel is way to soft for me, horrible durability. It lasted me a total of 2 hours. I had it in the mains with msv in the crosses.

Give hurricane in mains and excel in crosses a go, quite a good blend IMHO but depends on YOUR taste and stringing requirements. Hurricane alone lasts longer but it is a topspin monster string and offers little feel by definition.
good luck! |

For durability reasons NEVER HYBRID A SOFT MULTI IN THE MAINS BUT ALWAYS IN THE CROSSES !
You get far better durability out of it.... If you're not a string breaker by all means use the multi in the mains.

As far as Hurricane goes, I prefer Hurricane pro 18ga over all the other Hurricane offerings. It is by far one of the softest polys on the market, and playability is great. It pairs up very nicely with Gosen OG in the crosses, and makes for a great hybrid, at a decent cost.

I personally find PH Tour stiffer & less feel (strung in the same tension in the summer) than normal PH; especially more noticable now that the ambient temperature is less than 18 deg celcius here in UK where I play indoors. Still trying to find the same feel as I get from the summer months experimenting with tension right now. PH Tour does give more "bite" / spin, the weak link is in the Excel. This year's Excel is soooooooo poor in terms of durability, I have kept a tally of the playing time, its about half of the Excel from 2008 before it breaks. (Frame Babolat Pure Storm). Hope that helps. |
