Default SPPP: 1.18 or 1.23?

Im using 1.18 in my microgel radical MP and getting ridiculous topspin, almost too much. The trajectory is just insane, very quick ball that violently shoots up off the stringbed and drops just as hard. It is fun but wondering if the 1.23 will give me more options? Regardless the string looks MONEY with the radical (orange on orange)

Anyway what do you guys like better?

I had a lot of trouble with the 1.23 breaking prematurely. I quit carrying it. I now get the 1.28, and have had no problems so far. As for the 1.18, I don't know how well it will hold up. I really like the feel of SPPP for a poly though.

With SPPP I only use the 1.18 gauge for myself and when I string up rackets for other people.

I've not had any durability issues and none have complained about it breaking prematurely. It can break with hard hit shanks near the grommets, but that pretty much the same as with any poly.

1.18 felt great and played great imo. The durability was surprisingly good for such a thin string.

Sounds like you really like the 1.18 version. What do you think the 1.23 version will do for you? You know the saying, the grass is always....

i honestly, can't play w/ any 18g strings. can't go wrong w/ the 1.23 and if you don't like you can always go to 1.18. i hit very hard and flat and string very high so yeaa. i guess there is only one way to find out. hit w/ both

For me, a thinner gauge gives more bite/power when it comes to the sweetspot, while a thicker gauge gives me added feel and directional control. String low with a thicker gauge, and higher with a thinner gauge.

I used to use the SPPPP (Pure version), as it felt a bit softer than the Orange version and didn't have the problems of premature breakage towards the frame, but broke towards the center of the stringbed.

When Signum released the successor to the SPPP - Pro Hyperion, they also acknowledged and recognised the old Poly Plasma was prone to breaking at the frame and they developed a newer more resilient string in the Pro Hyperion.

So I would definitely try the Signum Pro Hyperion in 1.24 and 1.30 gauge, if you want durability and good control. Try the thinner gauge if you want more power and softer feel.

If you want a more spinny string, try the new Signum Pro Tornado - it's great as a main string, while I prefer the Hyperion as a cross string in my natty gut hybrids
