Just looking for what people outside the state think of Utah's sports teams, I know we don't get much respect, so I'm not looking for it, I really am just curious.
Utah Jazz? Utah Utes? (particularly football?) BYU Cougars? (Particularly football?) RSL? Last edited by tenniskid567 : 11-30-2009 at 08:47 PM. Reason: Typo |

tenniskid567. Do you live in Salt Lake? Just wondering if you might like to hit sometime? I am a solid 4.0 to low 4.5 based on the USTA tournaments I have played. I usually hit on the U at Eccles tennis center in the winter.

^^ OK.
To sort of answer your original question, I work at the U. I was born and raised in Iowa and went to school at the University of Iowa. I moved here in 2001. As far as Utah sports, I never thought about them before moving here. The only thing I remember was BYU winning the national championship in 1984 by beating Michigan in the Holiday Bowl. Michigan was unranked and probably the 5th best team in the Big Ten that year. Since moving here, I have started watching some Utah sports. I'm not really into the Y / U rivalry. Sure, I would love to see Utah win, but I don't have much of a vested interest (I would much rather have seen Iowa beat Ohio State and be going to the Rose Bowl). The MWC is basically a joke except for Utah, BYU, and TCU, so most of the games are uninteresting to say the least. Specifically on the Max Hall thing, he certainly had every reason to be upset and to hate Utah. However, as the QB of BYU, he has to know that he cannot make those kinds of comments. If he wanted to address the issue, he should have spoken to his coach last year. The coach could have taken the matter to the AD who could have then addressed it with Utah (behind the scenes). These types of things should not be done through the press or in public. It just is not the way to handle it. I don't care at all about NBA basketball. I do have a lot of respect for what Larry Miller accomplished and built. He really was a great man. I barely even know RSL exists and never watch soccer. Real Salt Lake is where it's at. Kyle Beckerman was incredible, go out to a match next season, and you'll see why they were such a good team.
The Jazz are good, Carlos Boozer is a good player and I have a good amount of respect for them, even though the team I like in the western conference are the Lakers.

Really not very fair that Utah colleges get to compete with half of the team being 26 years old, and they also get to wear those magical undies.

Being from New Mexico I was taught to look down my nose at the Cougars. But I don't hate them. I believe that the Utes should have been able to play for the National Championship last year when (or whenever) they were undefeated. I was a big Jazz fan when Karl Malone & John Stockton played for them.
