Thanks so much for those links!
I used to be absolutely obsessed with Goran in the 1990s. I mean, I was literally living from match to match, it was crazy, especially since supporting him could sometimes be the most agonizing experience. I remember when he had his amazing string of victories, oddly enough right after parting ways with Bob Brett. I also remember the times he would push the self-destruct button. I was going away on holiday on that fateful Sunday in 2001. When I booked the flight I had no hopes of Goran going past the first round even. And then my girlfriend had to drag me to the airport kicking and screaming. When I had the opportunity to visit Croatia a few years ago, the visit to Split was like a pilgrimage. I was thirty-something, a husband and father, acting like a crazed maniac (although let me tell you, this is an amazing place, the old town essentially made up of one enormous palace). Goran was the single best ambassador of Croatia. I could never recreate this level of fanaticism after his career was over. |

I got his autograph today, I just sort of had to really, as he won what I still think is the best Wimbledon final ever
