Hi everyone I'm a new stringer and I would like to know how many of you had trouble with your clamps when u first started stringing? I noticed that when i tried to release them they were really hard and my hands were hurting afterwards. I would just like to know if the longer you do the less it hurts?

is it possible you have the clamps set too tight?
The tighter they are the harder they are to close and open...... maybe try loosening them up a bit? |

Probably the clamps themselves. They're too short and there's not much room to get your fingers to release them. I'd look for some new clamps. I think it's SP that has some nice spring loaded clamps, not sure.

first lube the cam area of the levers, so they lock/unlock easily... second on the back of the levers feel for any burrs or sharp spots & trim them with a razor this should help... I had the same problem

I agree with this. Took advice from some other post to use wax on the area where the lever contacts the back of the clamp and I was really surprised how much it helped. Also using tape to cover sharp spots helped a lot.

Steve is right. My experience with the Gamma clamps is that they are way too hard to open if you have them tight enough to hold the strings. I am talking about the plastic floating clamps. They just don't hold the strings if you make them loose enough to open and close smoothly. There are several good clamps that you can replace them with.

Hoping to hear from redvd8 about that next string job and if suggestions helped. Worried that hands were injured to the point he can't use a computer.

Those gamma clamps are tough. They are so bulky and hard to release. I got a big cut on my finger when I tried to open it. Had to return the machine after two stringing job. It's such a pain to use...
