Default Need help proving bull****

Okay, so here is the dealio.

Recently, a teacher said the reason the colours within the movie 'City of God' are so intense is because the movie was shot in high definition. Now, I'm no tech-whizz, but I know that movies are simply not 'shot in hugh definition', but that it has something to do with encoding and formatting after production. Can someone please explain this to me? Cheers

Standard film still provides a higher resolution than a digital video format, IIRC, but some filmmakers are beginning to shoot in a straight digital video format to make the transfer to HD video easier.

City of God was shot on regular film, though: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317248/technical

So HD is about transfer? I cringe at some of the stuff she says, this was one of the lighter things.

There was also very likely post processing editting to the colors, photoshopped if you will. It happens all the time and is a tool to help stimulate an atmoshpere.
