Tourna Grip original is too short

The tourna grip original is only 99 cms long compared to wilson pro (120 cm) and yonex supergrap. It would not fully cover the leather grip on my Fischer Mag Tour. I did not realize that orignal is short and they also carry a extra-long version of the same.

I also felt that it was too thin and very dry. Do others feel same way?

You are correct, original isn't long enough to cover up most grips today, not even sure why they still make it. I think extra-long should just be the standard and they should do away with original. I accidentally bought a pack of original last year, I wasn't paying attention. I just cut pieces from another full length one to make a longer grip so it would cover the whole grip on my racquet.

It is thin and dry. My hands don't sweat much, so I only use tourna in the summer, if I use in the winter it stays to dry and slips on off center hits. When it's hot and your hand is sweaty/wet, tourna works great.

just stretch it lol, theres plenty of space.

Some people with one-hand backhands don't really care if the grip is fully wrapped.. I think i've seen some pictures floating around where you can still see the upper part of leather grips. I'd probably do the same since i don't really need the grip to go up all the way.

If your a one hander, get tourna original. If your a two hander get xl.

You have to stretch it for it to wrap around everything.

yup, it's short. even when you stretch it, it's short. i find that people with excessive perspiration love it, while those that don't are impartial to it. i'm one of those types that can probably squeeze out a gallon of liquid from my clothes on a warm day. ok, maybe i'm exaggerating a little...

User Error.... I have a 4 5/8 grip and a two handed backhand. I am able to wrap the XL to the throat of the racquet, sometimes I feel like I have too much. You are obviously overlapping it WAY too much.

How much you wrap is all about personal preference though, there is no error or mistake.

You are right, but I prefer my overgrip to go all the way upto the throat.

Yes, it was my fault. I was not paying attention when ordering. But I am not wrapping it too much. I ordered the original one, while you are talking about the XL.

I have always used wilson pro overgrips. But I don't like it that much since the recent changes they made. So I was looking for alternatives, and ordered wilson pro, yonex supergrap and tourna grip original for side by side comparison.

You need to find the right balance between strechting and overlapping the grip. If you stretch Tournagrip too much you will end up short. I think the secret is to use minimal overlap while only slightly stretching the grip – that way I can reliably fit it over the whole handle (non-XL version).

this is about right. a taut grip with very slight overlay gets me the farthest. i just wrapped my tournagrip original on a 4 3/8 grip handle all the way to the throat on an apdc, and so i know it can wrap pretty well if you're careful

yup - even the xl are pretty short.

It depends on your grip size and the length of the handle of your racquet. I use a 4 1/2 with 2 overgrips and I agree it's too short. And if your racquet handle is longer (like an n90 or some Babolat's) it definitely will not cover the entire grip. I've always used tournagrip and am more than familiar with how to get the most out of it. I prefer a little overlap too but the short length of this grip demands minimal overlap.

I have a small reel of tourna grip waiting in my bag (approximately 5 grips worth)..wonder if it'll have this same problem about it being short.

not on the original size. the original is shorter and narrower than the XL version.
made a mistake on ordering a 30 pack original, and found it is too short to go on both FXP Prestige MP and O3 Tour MP both on leather grips. the XL covered with no issues.

from memory, the XL is 25mm wide, which is a plus when stretching it to fit.

as for the dry feel - dont bother with it unless you have sweaty hands. try the tacky version maybe

I've found it doesn't do enough of my Wilson's handle but Dunlop Hydramax does it perfectly. In all fairness, I've put the grip going right up the throat, but even then, tournagrip always feels a bit short compared to other grip tapes, so I relate to your issue.

The XL is too small to fit a Babolat 4 1/2 handle

I use the Tourna original on my Head Prestige Microgel MP and it always covers my entire grip.

this has been discussed several times before. i don't use tourna grip anymore cause i hated the feel and durability of it. but when i did i used it on 4 1/2 grip usually on extended racquets (27 1/4 and 27 1/2) and i always had enough to cover the whole handle. like others have said, you are overlapping too much. and it was the original.
