Barricades? Sexy? You gotta be kidding me.
I don't think any tennis shoe is especially flattering.

It is a good deal to buy dresses when they are on sale, even cheaper than buying top + skirt + compression skort.

I just got my second box of dresses from TW today. I'll go try them on and see if any look right. Wish me luck! Then all the rejects go back in the mail tomorrow.

OK, CrystalClear,
Here's the latest batch of dresses: This is a beautiful, striking dress. Everything I have ever seen from Bolle has been awesome. Alas, I am sending it back. The cut is just a bit to straight up and down for me, so it comes off looking boxy in back. For anyone with even a bit less junk in the trunk, it would be perfect. Close, but no cigar. Fit was just OK, but it lacked style, you know? The white accent wasn't helping. A bit ho hum because of the color. Biggest problem was the shelf bra. It goes down to almost my navel. It is in no sense of the word a "bra." It's just a bunch of fabric that is completely in the way. What the heck?

![]() Ding ding ding! We have a winner. It passed inspection from the front, side and back. It even earned a "Mom, that's cute!" from my 16 year old. Again, the shelf bra is superfluous -- I can't see how anyone could feel comfortable in this thing without a sports bra -- but the flimsy foam cups are removable, so it's OK. $30. It's nice to know the good people of Yonnex have folks like me in mind! Now I have to decide whether to throw $15 at this little number: What do you think could be going on with this dress? Are the straps really going to rest on my carotid artery? Is that snakeskin on the sides? Can I possibly get away with wearing that color? For $15, I guess it's worth it to find out. Stay tuned. Cindy -- who might just wear this pink dress in tomorrow's singles match

Uh oh. Here's what it looks like on Elena Dementieva:
![]() Um. Somehow I don't think I could pull that off.

Thank you Cindy for the detailed report. I like this one from Yonnex too, especially the removable cups. No need to worry about the straps. The LuluLemon line I like all have removable cups. I wish all tennis apparel should come with the device. What about the size? just normal size? small is small? medium is medium? The blue one is cute if it comes with the removable cups. The best of all is the price. You can't get wrong with that.

I never kid about clothing. Especially the white ones with the red stripes.

Sizing on Yonnex seems to run fairly true. I wear small tops and medium bottoms in most brands.
I think the thing with sizing for me is that the skirt part of the dress has to have some extra yardage, if you will. If it flares a little (as the pink Yonnex does but the red Bolle does not) I will do OK. There is one issue with the pink Yonnex. There is maybe one inch of extra material around the top of the bust line in back, where the tag is. That leaves a gap that looks like it needs to be safety pinned. I'm going to take it to the dry cleaner tomorrow and see if there is an easy way to take it in a tad. You can see from this picture that anything designed to look right on an upper body ripped like that is going to gap a bit on li'l ole me.

I'm somewhat partial to Bethanie Mattek's wardrobe from a few years ago...

I think we're more interested in what's in the dress, then the dress itself, but the dress can be a big attention getter. :P

As an aside on dresses, what on earth were Venus and Rezai wearing for the Madrid final?!?
Venus looked like a moulin rouge performer half dressed and Rezai looked like a cross between a breakdancer and a Hareem inhabitant. It was comedy for sure! |

Cindy, we really need to see you wearing these outfits to really be able to comment and judge. You may email the pics to me privately if you prefer.

If so, I've been there. They only had three dresses in my size, and two of those might have been mislabeled because one was ridiculously tight and the other ridiculously large. I'm a pretty loyal customer of TW. They've always been quite good to me.

Venus' dress looked very heavy. I noticed this in some of the dresses. All the weight of all the frills and doodads can be felt at the bottom of the cress. I would imagine that a player would resent that extra weight after 3 hours of serious tennis. The other thing I have decided is that Serena cannot possibly be wearing off-the-rack Nike dresses; her dresses must be custom made. The Nikes I have tried are very tight in the torso in size medium. I would imagine even an XL would come nowhere close to fitting Serena. Dementieva, OTOH, might be wearing off the rack Yonnex. I say that because I've seen pics of her in the two Yonnex dresses I bought. Now, she is a big woman (did anyone see the Tennis Channel instructional episode where she is standing next to her coach and she dwarfs him?). The dresses are crazy-short on her but seem a good length on me.
