Ever wondered what it would be like to play against yourself or someone
that played just like you? I think it would be tough. My opponent would be someone erratic. Occasionally hit mishit forehands that somehow drop in near the baseline. Short slices somewhat randomly. Decent serve. Runs down most dropshots. Probably hard to get a rhythm.

My backhand and my backhand would get lots of practice.

I couldn't return his serves… but he couldn't return mine either.
I guess we'd still be playing the first tie break. |

Easiest match of my career, I'd beat him like a ginger stepchild.

I often wonder what it'd be like to face my own serve. Especially on days when it's clicking.

does your opponent know you are the same as him? If not, then there is a real advantage to be had.
if both had equal knowledge, and equal intelligence, strategy smarts etc, then....then...oh i am too tired to complete this line of thought. interesting idea though...

True. I also wonder how heavy my ball is. Honestly, I have no idea.

I would say, 'boy, my opp is one handsome dude' and then as the game starts, we would boy play nervous, struggling to hold. then runs of 3-4 games won and 3-4 games lost. whoever serves for the set will be broken and will win by breaking the other. The second set will be many more grueling rallies ending in a tiebreaker in which whomever gets a 3pt lead in the tiebreaker will inevitably get complacent and lose.

what strategy would you employ to beat your duplicate you?
I think I might try to hit a lot of slices to elicit some FH shanks. Considering how my return of serve sucks compared to my serve, there might be a lot of short points.

The simple strategy is to give your opponent shots that you yourself don't like to hit...but your opponent would just do the same thing. I think overall, if you played against a clone of yourself it would all come down to who is having the better day in that particular match. |

Would this be Good Me, or Bad Me, or even Good Me vs. Bad Me? Would I have to watch Teletubbies?

I actually had this happen. During our fall/winter league, my dbls partner and I played a pair from another club that was almost a mirror image of our playing styles. And we were cross-court from each other, which was interesting. Even the peanut gallery up top watching saw the similarities. My "twin" had my topspin, power and touch, my partners double had a rocket flat ball and balistic overhead. The winner? We won in 3. I think the biggest difference was that we had better serves.
Thank God. |

Yeah, during warm ups I'd be thinking that I may double bagel this guy. Once the match starts the unforced errors come out from both of us resulting in one of the ugliest matches ever. Winners off the back foot, short balls sent into the catch fence. As Brad G would say, a litered up stat sheet. In the end, just the guy I wanted to play, an antipusher.
