Stats are stats. There is nothing misleading about them as the number of wins/losses is clearly stated right before the percentage.

If I left that detail out... then yes, the percentages would be misleading.

BTW, (17) 5-set matches, across multiple surfaces, is hardly a handful... Tsonga's 4/0 (100%) is a handful and I expect that he'll drop down below Nadal once he finally loses a 5-setter.

Interesting post! Now I understand why Federer said anything can happen in a 5 set match during AO '09, his 5 setters are nearly 50%. He should take a look at Nadal's stat and give him more credit.

Note the 5-set record of Rafa vs Mathieu

If it happens to go 5... you can pretty much count on a Rafa win

Pat Rafters 5 set record was very impressive. I cant seem to find it anywhere though.... I think he went something like 12 or 13 before losing his first one

Wait what 4 did Tsonga win? I remember the commentators talking about him never being in a 5 setter when he was playing Almagro at the Australian this year, so there was that match, the match with Djokovic, then Doglopov (sp?) at Wimbledon, what was the other one?

I may not like Nadal, but i have to admit that this guy is someone you don't want to go to 5th set. You better finish him in 4 sets if not 3.

His 3 loses came
- in 2005 AO when Hewitt (another dogfighter) edged over him.
- 2005 Miami, when Roger Federer found his best form and blew him away in 5th set.
- 2007 Wimbledon: He missed his chances in 5th set and Federer took them.

In the later years, when his speed and strength will decrease, his record will come down. It will look more like Sampras, Agassi and Hewitt. Those were also fantastic 5 set players.

[strike]27/6 (81.8%)[/strike]

this includes things like World Championship Tennis (WCT)
also including the masters finals and other smaller tournament finals which were best of 5 sets.

Double check again... you listed another 4-setter:
RR Raul Ramirez (MEX) N/A W 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 3-0 RET

You also listed (2) 4-setters from the USO in 1981:
R16 Yannick Noah (FRA) N/A W 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3
Q Roscoe Tanner (USA) N/A W 7-6, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6

It would be easier to double check if you listed them by GS tournaments, Davis Cup matches and other

- - - - -

Again... my calculations are:
22/3 in GS tournaments
3/0 in DC matches

Do you agree with those?

BTW, this is why I told another poster that it's not easy combing through these match scores for 5-set matches

This list doesn't include davis cup. Everything is from the atpworldtour website and they don't list his daviscup matches

Sorry i had to get these individually cut and paste from atp's website, too much work to go over them again and organize them by GS/DavisCup and others.

I went through every one of his tournaments on the ATP site and DC site...

My calculations are:
22/3 in GS tournaments
3/0 in DC matches
4/3 in other tournaments

29/6 is the number I'll use
