They do serve a purpose, they are there to hold down and keep the grip tape from unraveling or coming undone. The are not for looks unless you have a pink one from a Estusa ProLegend Classic yellow/pink racquet.

They are a nice little touch and piece of insurance if the finishing tape work is less than perfect either functionally or esthetically.
It depends on the racket, but on some I find it to be an annoyance since it interferes with my two hand grip: instead of grip, there's a ridge of raised rubber which serves as a distraction. On other rackets, I don't notice at all. I think it's best to apply the finishing tape neatly so you don't have to bother. |
