On two different occasions and two different opponents that have opened Penn Championships and the can made an explosion sound like a shotgun. Neither case were they cut by the metal top but it did sting a bit. Anyone else seeing these over-pressurized cans? It could be due to leaving them in a hot car?

Yes, it happens all the time to me in the summer.
Fun solution: Step on the can. Sometimes the metal will go straight through the plastic cover :3. The can doesn't hold in tension anyways, and hopefully you have a bag to keep them in.

Make the most out of it! When my coach gets new balls, we just throw the can as high as possible. When it lands, it makes the "shotgun" sound and opens on its own.

Yeah, just be careful. This kind of thing claimed the life of at least one Spinal Tap drummer.
