Is anyone using lead tape on the PB10 Mid?
Where did you put it? How many grams did you add? Can you share your before and after experience? Thanks |

After stringing my new PB10mid with Bab VS Touch (16g) in the mains at 55lbs and Weiss Cannon Silverstring crosses at 53lbs, I measured the specs and the static weight is 342g and balance is 32.3cm or 6 pts HL. I'm not usually comfortable with balances less than 9-10 pts HL but this felt perfectly fine compared to my BLX 90 and 95 sticks. Really liked the stability and plow and feeback that this gives on all strokes. The grip shape is a littler weird but quite nice on my SW forehand grip but strange on my eastern OHBH grip. Probably get used to this in time. Overall a thumbs up for this racket and I'll be using this for a while now and see if I really do prefer it to my BLX 90 and 95.

You can customize the grip shape with tape.

Just demo'd the PB10 Mid yesterday and loved it!!
I play the KBlade Tour with added lead, but find it a tad too stiff, so I'm looking for a stick that's a bit more arm-friendly. I had zero transition time and it felt strangely familiar - until I got home, and measured both sticks. Lo and behold, the PB10 Mid Demo is a mere 0.3 GRAMS lighter - and the balance seems to be identical as well. Amazing what the cat dragged in.....never even would have considered Volkl until now....will hit with it again to see if the romance can continue... |

@nyc: Wish I could say the same about the Volkl's quality control. My pb10 mid just arrived and it measures in at 338g and 7pts HL, strung. The advertised specs are 343g and 10pts HL. No matter what brand you buy, quality control is a crap shoot.

Yeah, having gone through a slew of wilson and head frames, I know what you mean. I always match my frames, but even so there's always the one stick that feels better than the others. If I decide to go for it, I would get them matched by TW.

Anyone alter their grips? I saw the Redondo Classic grip mod thread - I think I'll try Balsa wood first to get a more square grip first. if that fails, rpny.

I have them setup as follows : - 1 layer of head tape on the diagonal bevels - 3 layers of head tape on the left side/right side bevels - no tape on the top and bottom bevels. This rounds/squares up the handle a bit. It also slightly increases grip size. I use a leather grip + Supergrap overgrip and I can still feel the bevels just fine with that setup. Hope this helps. Edit Since I use a 1hbh I only tape half of the handle since I don't touch the upper half, and hence don't need to modify it. This keeps the added weight to a minimum as well. It's not really noticeable. Last edited by 0d1n : 07-22-2010 at 05:22 AM. |

Using white athletic tape is common on the circuit to enlarge or change grip shapes--not every player can afford Roman's fees. It is easily available from the trainers, and tears in a straight line, which is even better than cutting. Also, its rough outer surface and stickiness when hot, allows your grip to adhere to your modification well. Additionally, 1/2 inch lead tape is of the same thickness, so they are interchangeable on the pallets for whatever your needs maybe. |
