Yonex used to recommend padding the top center 4 to 6 loops of the square head frames when stringing. Pads are especially useful on individual grommets or where strings tend to make a sharp turn.

Here is RSI's take on power pads from four years back.

I took some of these identical "power pads" off of a couple old wooden rackets that I was experimenting with. They're just hard plastic, and won't work very well on modern rackets. See how they need a flat, wide surface to sit on?

I don't think the plastic ones work on any racket. I went to the leather shop and got a few of the leather pads and still have what I took a picture of left. I still use the leather once in a while.

Seems like all these do is increase the radius of the string so the string does not come through the frame make a two 90 degree turns and go back.

Irvin
LOL. Pretty funny. They must have had a supply of stuff lying around for wood racquets.

Come on 'drakulie' be nice. When I started stringing many of the rackets were wood. LOL But that was about 1980.

I have a pack of those plastic things. They didn't work then and they don't work now.

Ha! I probably shouldn't admit I spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out how to make those plastic bewb-looking things work on my racket...

Well....that's a good question. I think probably because two weeks after I throw them away, I'll find a use for them? In all honesty, I may have thrown them out long ago. I haven't seen them, but they may be in the bottom of one of my boxes.

LOL. I started stringing about mid to late 80's. There was still a few woodies left over, so was able to string a few. That said, haven't strung a wood frame in a LOOOOONG time.

I do remember those being used though,,, on the outside of the frame near the throat. (mostly on the last two outer mains) if memory serves.

Like you and Rabbit, I may have a few lying in a box somewhere.

Try a rawhide shoe lace and doublefaced tape if you have to use power pads.

^^ Do you think there is any chance the pad will slip out from under the string?

There is another good picture of a power pad used at the Legg Mason tournament in the second post of this thread.

well, try this. Put your pinkie where the power pads go, tension the string, and try to pull the pinkie out
disclaimer: don't try it at home. i'm joking of course. there's no way it would slip out.

I even have some trim string remaining over from the wooden days.
Most here probably does not even know what the rough and smooth trim string even is.

posted this in a past thread, some pads from a leather belt i cut. You dont need to roll up the leather like if you use a leather grip, it provides enough thickness

I dont often use them, but it gives a very slight dampened sensation
