We're in the market for a labtop and want to know what brand/model do you like the best. Our dell died again and it is time to be retired. Thanks,
Daniel |

i would go for a Toshiba, UBM, or Hp, since they have the largwer warranty period and the cheapest parts if one gets damaged.

If I remember correctly lots of us on here use G4 powerbooks - there was a thread a while back about it. I've had mine since they were released (around 2001 in the UK) and it still sh!tkicks most other laptops into touch!!! Get one - you won't regret it (no more of that annoying windows crap is a bonus too!!)

Whoa whoa whoa, what are you using the machine for?
Buying a mac is like buying a car with the hood welded shut.

Look into the Averatec models. You'll generally get more for the money than if you go with the bigger names.

Thanks for the info guys. Does anyone have a powerbook or an ibook? How does it perform and how does it stand the test of time?

I just recently bought a new laptop. The nerdiest guys in the laptop department quietly admitted to me that they own Fujitsu laptops. Very reliable workhorses, apparently. (I was on a budget, ended up with an HP that gets decent reviews but its just a backup so it should be okay).

Like I said I've had my G4 for about 3 years and it's been impeccable so far (touch wood), it's the 15.2" original. If you're doing photo, movie or music editing or archiving a mac is the standard all PC's are judged by, especially iLife now comes as standard (I think). Software support is excellent and the mac version of Office is better then the PC version thanks to Aqua. And if you're doing serious graphic or web design work that's what the altivec processor was designed for so you win all ways. Plus macs look miles better than the competition, Jonathon Ive is a genius!
