KHSOLO - one great GREAT tip for hitting killer 1HBH is to practice the 'throw'.. by this I mean the jerk-off motion of the forearm. (no joke intended.. just easiest to explain that way).
Try practising that but keeping the whole upper arm still - just rotating around the shoulder joint. This was the 1HBH tip given by the Tony Roche (Lendl's coach at the time) at a clinic when I was a teen and it is one of the best tips for getting a good feel for a 1HBH - especially for returns where you often need a short backswing.. (e.g. Sampras and Federer's punch returns). One reason for it is too many people try to hit their 1HBH straight-through the ball but if you look at Sampras', Federer's etc they still hit up quite markedly. (ignore the captions but look at the racquet path from #4 to #5...) ![]()

That's pretty hard to use unless the balls coming at your are chest to shoulder-high balls and you are hitting hitting high loopy balls with topspin - which doesn't sound like the case. Check out the fundamentals on your stroke and think about whether you should change your grip.
