How do I join FIT?

I live here in Italy and would like to join FIT if it's anything like USTA. I'd like to play some tournaments and get a rating. How would I go about doing so?

You should go to any tennis club and talk to the local pro.
He/she will tell you where to go in your area.
As far as I remember you have to go to a Sport Medicine Center where you will be visited (I think medical examination is mandatory).
The visit is nothing special. Don't worry.
And then you should receive your "tessera FIT".

From the FIT website FAQ section:

Come posso ottenere la tessera agonistica?
La tessera viene rilasciata dai Comitati Regionali attraverso i Circoli affiliati; pertanto bisogna chiedere al proprio circolo di appartenenza il tesseramento agonistico ed a tal proposito è necessario essere in regola con la dovuta certificazione medica.

http://www.fitsicilia.it/ would be my region. I've hooked up with a few tennis players already. It hasn't quite warmed up yet. But when it does, we're hitting up the local clubs.

You can either go in person to the headquarters or get your memebership through your club in Italy. Yes, Italians are much more serious when comes to sport. You will need to pass medical tests (although nothing tragic) and basic vision, to exclude major Health issues.
This said, you will notice that the tournaments/leagues are organized beautifully, that the ratings are true, that competition is intense.
