Was down at Bath today watching the futures event. I'm convinced I could compete with the ladies at that level; it's just a matter of shaving my legs and putting on a skirt and a wig.

That is one of the many grunts/screams in my repertoire.

I've used Stringer's World a couple of times. They normally provide a good service. However, I ordered a set of Pro Hurricane 1.25 on Monday that I need for a customer today; the string just arrived and they sent Pro Hurricane Tour instead.

Meags,
Where you getting your Tour Bite from? And what are the differences in gauges/playing characteristics IYO between the gauges? Ta R.

I've tried 18 &17 gauge but by far the best of them is the 16L 1.25. It just has a little more substance and I've not felt there was more power spin with the thinner gauges. In fact the 1.25 had the best of everything and no string movement which the thinner strings did a little. The string feels like a diamond shape with real sharp edges and when you string it it feels a lot tougher and imo this is a big factor on the grip/feel i get off the stringbed.

The 1.25 is what you have in your pc+.......the thinner strings are good like other good quality strings but the 1.25 is the special one.

You prefer 1.24 to 1.25? My God, you're sensitive!

Everyone, Qsn. Which is your preference?... frames with plow, heft, stability and solidness? Or lighter, whippier, super-quick rackets where stick speed can seem quicker?... hmm, I'm pondering a few things related to this. R.

Indeed... cheers to any Irish RHs or ever so slightly Irish (like many in England, I know) RHs who might be reading this... "Raises Guinness."

Question to all you string hybrid . . . ers.
Have any of you tried your normal setup the other way around? For example if you use poly mains, syn crosses - try syn mains and poly crosses. I remember trying this a few years ago and for reasons unknown to me i prefered the poly in the crosses. Looks like im going back to the hybrid way so was just a thought that crossed my mind. Not sure the exact science between the 2 switching - maybe Ash or Jamie you guys have some thoughts ? Cheeeeeerrrssss

^^^The mains are the primary influence on the stringbed, so whatever you put on them will provide the overriding influence in terms of characteristics like feel and power.
I did try a hybrid the non-traditional way round (i.e. multi mains, poly cross) by accident when I wasn't concentrating on what I was doing. There definitely was more power and a softer feel. I will be trying it again at some point and comparing it to the same strings the other way round, but I prefer poly mains in my hybrids as I prefer the feel of poly.

Adding lead to increase SW adds plow and i don't find my set up with my bast core any different in comfort from the baseline than the pc for instance. In fact its more versatile. Strings are important and if you find your ypp to like tour bite then you may have your answer. It may also be that the woofer dampening combined with the TB is actually what you like and maybe Thats why i like my bast core as it has a similar feel that 'seems' easier. All in all i have a super stable whippy speedy manouverable racket with lots of plow

I'm a "plow and stability" man myself but I'm not convinced you need huge static weight to get there. I've currently got Wilson BLX Opens with 15g of lead on them so about 330g strung, balance around 6pts so around 320ish on the swingweight.
For me the interesting thing is whether you like your racquets polarised or non-polarised. Personally I prefer non but a lot of people like them polarised. Most pros are slightly to very polarised today but most were very non-polarised pre-2000 say. It's what I call the Nadal-Federer divide in that Nadal is very polarised, Fed less so. |

Got a club match on sunday against the top people in the league - Hampshire tennis club Excellent time to try the new setup out! Gonna have Texflex in the mains and Poly Power in the crosses. On a side note - was browsing round the t3nnispl@net website today for strings as i got recommended a few reels to buy. Saw my machine price has increased by £300! Certainly bought that at the right time!! I think they are still evaluating their pricing compared to the other machines out there, think the price is about right now so i'm very fortunate i got it cheaper!!
