That's right.
Today's results: Clemson 5, NC State 2 Good win. All straight set matches. Clemson took 2-4 and 6. Our two seniors were the only losers, once again. Georgia Tech 6, Wake Forest 1 The Tripper meltdown continues. Wake Forest has such terrible team chemistry. So much talent wasted. Wolff had a strong win, but GT was able to win every other court. Virginia 7, Florida State 0 Straight forward win for UVa Miami 6, Virginia Tech 1 Lame performance from the Hokies. Miami is getting better and better, they have been a surprise this year. |

Yeah the BC/Maryland weekend is a wash for most teams in the league. Maryland was supposed to be improved but has been quite dissapointing

Wake beat NC State 5-2. Very close match that NC State should have won. Pulgar and Hogson killed Carleton(he's gonna fall out the rankings, amazing) and Wolff. Wake won 3-6 all in 3sets. The Pack choked away the doubles point.
Georgia Tech at Clemson tomorrow. I will be there in the awful indoor courts as a monsoon is predicted. Last edited by Clemson_tennis : 03-29-2011 at 08:39 PM. |

If Clemson is to have any shot at beating GT, Galloway must be dropped from the line-up. He is in a major slump. That would but Moran at 5 and Rigsby at 6. Both of them have been on fire as of late and have decent shots at 5 and 6. However Georgia Tech will be too strong at 1-3 and doubles for it to matter anyway most likely.

GT def Clemson 6-1
very tough loss. The score says 6-1 but it was much closer. 4 of our 5 losses were 3 set battles. 1: 16 Gomez def DiFazio 6-4 2-6 6-4:This was the heartbreaker. This would have easily been DiFazio's best win of his career and really helped his ranking. Gomez came out the blocks firing. He was taking the ball early and commanding every point with a long wind-up forehand. Typical Spaniard style, raced to a 3-0 lead. DiFazio fought back and forced Gomez to start taking the ball later and being less confident. DiFazio played very well in the 2nd set. He dictated the angles. Gomez lost his ability to get on top the ball and dictate. DiFazio also took advantage of Gomez's poor movement to his backhand side. DiFazio had a 4-3 lead in the 3rd set and had points for a 5-3 lead but then the wheels fell off. For whatever reason DiFazio fell apart. Winning no points from 4-4 till the end. Gomez was able to prevail after a controversial call at 30-0.(DiFazio made a big deal out of it, but it didn't matter the wheels were already gone). Gomez is a future pro. He can probably crack the top 200 in the ATP. I think he would be very strong on clay. He has more sense and ability on the forehand wing than most everyone else I have seen in college. If he can add a little bit of power he can be a good challenger clay court player in the future. 2: Y.Maden def 67 Spir 6-4 6-1 Impressive victory for Yannick. He was very close to another ranked win when he barely fell to Wolff after blowing a 5-2 lead. He will be in the rankings soon. Spir got off to a qucik start and led 3-0 in the 1st set. Yannick then outscored Spir 6-1 6-1 Spir could not hit the court with a volley all match. Into the net or wide everytime. It was scary to watch. GT would win 4-6 in tight 3 set affairs. |

Duke @ UVA Friday afternoon
yes, Duke is most likely going to get killed, but some great tennis to be seen, i'm jealous of anyone going to this match 1 dubs and 1,2 singles are going to be awesome (well, I feel better about Duke keeping those close if it's Cunha-Domijan and Carleton-Shabaz, the reverse might be rough for Carleton) |

Virginia and Duke each have two singles players in the top 8, and 1 doubles team in the top 6 in the ITA rankings. The competition at the top of the lineups will be extremely high quality.

Yea, depth is where UVA outclasses Duke on paper, although the two times these two team splayed each other last year were outright brawls.

also Duke plays well on fast courts so the advantage that UVA has on the fast courts will not be as large.

I am very dissapointed in the loss to Maryland. it is a large step back after some steps forward. We played quite well against GT and Miami. This was a poor showing. Especially from Dom Maden and Moran.
But Y.Maden and DiFazio have been hot. They may be in the rankings soon. |

ACC SID's getting real lazy these days. Wake Forest,Virginia Tech,Maryland and Boston College have all axed their live scoring function.

Today's results:
my picks were pretty close. Virginia def Duke 5-2: UVA is almost a solid lock in doubles and #2 singles. Shabaz lost his 2nd in a row to Hernandez(UVA fans comment on Hernandez's play of you were there). Jenkins is in a mini-slump. But Virginia dominated in the rest, so 5-2 but wasn't that close. Duke 6, Virginia Tech 1: Actually kind of a struggle. Virginia Tech battles at 5 and 6 and won on court 4. Virginia Tech is showing a little bit of fight now late in the year. Wake 4 FSU 3: Tripper Carleton ends his massive slump in style, thumping Bowles 6-1 6-0. Blake Davis was crushed at 3 by Atkinson 1 and 1. Strong performance by Wake. Their individual talent has never been the issue, its the team chemistry and mental toughness of the team that is questionable. Georgia Tech def Maryland 5-2: Horny flat out sucks. Miami 5, NC State 2:Expected result but unexpected where the points came from. Miami is usally a deep team but was beaten at 5 and 6. NC State, more top heavy was beaten at 1-4. Matches 2-4 were all 6-4 6-4 to Miami. Clemson and Boston College: No clue because BC's website has zilch on it. Somebody must be playing a match to rival Isner/Mahut. |
