very strange match so far...lots of lopsided first sets

not looking great for duke so far, but i think reid will not be going down quietly in his last match @ unc

Boyajian pouring it on.

Saba cruising. Any fight in Burkhardt or Carleton?

looks like the second answer is no...very strange, can't imagine that wasn't a tankjob, he doesn't have the type of game that gets blown off the court quickly

I know its all about matchups but from what I saw of Boyajian wasn't much. He didn't bother Maden at all, yet Carleton had a fairly easy time with Maden. Shocking result

tide turning (credit to mengel for fighting back from 1-5 and saba for finishing off a quality opponent quickly, and of course marchese is our rock)

pretty sure cunha up a break in 2nd, torsten up early in 3rd, and mengel looks to be closing in on the finishing line against what has to be a very frustrated opponent

edit: the barriCunha looks to have found some teeth again, refusing to let himself lose his second career ACC match so soon after the first

wait are you a Duke fan MikeJ?

Parker broke back in 3rd, not wanting to give it away that easily

really? haha, i thought that was established at this point - especially after my series of battles with the stanford-ites

but yes, '09 alum and fan

edit:
and it looks like it's coming down to the battle at #1 (if pinsky isn't injured, i don't like his replacement at #5...torsten doesn't win many in the end it seems - he had a big role in duke's spring break losses to pepperdine and cal...i do, however, like the fact that they've stopped messing with marchese at 6 - he needs to stay regardless of the pinsky vs torsten situation - he's a warrior)

nah, just a lot of positive comments in UVA tennis's direction b/c i respect the remarkable things they're accomplishing nowadays

per the UNC match:

quite disappointing to lose to a team with such little depth (seems like they basically sacrifice #6 to any good teams)...but their guys really seem to have come to play today (unlike reid)

it was encouraging, however, to see the freshmen in the middle of the lineup really step up (especially mengel after his 1-5 hole)

hernandez is one hell of a player - i think he's really getting better, and he was damn good when he came to UNC...i've seen the way cunha fights in third sets, and stealing the deciding match from him is no easy task

it helps when you have davis cup experience and this kind of forehand: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swpAN-AneiM

looks like duke better settle in for a seeding in the range of 12-16 i would guess

i was at the UNC-duke match today....what a roller-coaster ride! Props to Brennan and Cameron for pulling off the doubles point - when I arrived, the score was 5-5. I saw the break - didn't realize UNC had squandered a 5-1 lead.

was absolutely shocked at how poorly Reid Carleton played. he was simply never in the match.

really disappointed that Hardy was serving for the first set at 5-1, and lost 7-5. he was toast at that point. didn't watch either of the bloodbaths at #4 or #6.

Jose and Cunha started off sluggishly, but both really picked up their games as the first set progressed. Huge props to Jose for pulling out a huge victory to preserve the win for the Heels. when duke took the 3-2 lead, I felt certain that Parker and Jose would split matches, at best.

So, congrats to Jose and William, and the others for a big win!

Today's matches:

Virginia 7, Clemson 0: Eevn if UVA plays a weak line-up I can't see a win for Clemson.

Georgia Tech 6, Virginia Tech 1

Duke 7, FSU 0: FSU is not deep and their top 2 strength is overwhelmed by Duke's top 2. Can Mirzadeh beat Cunha? Perhaps but I don't see Cunha losing again

NC State 4, Maryland 3: Pulgar and Hogdson carry the day

Wake 7, BC 0

Miami vs UNC: Match of the day. UNc is coming off of a big win. They are favored in doubles and 1 and 2. Miami is a deep team and has advantage at 5 and 6. It will come down to 3 and 4. Split the two. UNC 4-3

Miami takes doubles vs UNc

edit: UNC is control of 5 of the 6 singles matches though

UNc up 3-2 now. With Ahari about so slam the door.

UVA up 5-1. Galloway gets a massive win over Singh. Yannick Maden making a comeback vs Jenkins.

Virginia Tech's live scoring service is dead

Cunha beats Mirzadeh 6-4 6-2 to confirm a 4-1 win for Duke. (Saba beaten by Smith)

UVA dominated doubles. On singles, Singh DF'd a match point in the match tiebreaker. Jenkins's athleticism was evident, and carried the match at the close of the second set (last to finish). Shabaz rolled out easily, then tightened a bit, but closed. D

I was happy with our effort vs UVA. It's a lot better than we did last year at home vs UVA. Only dissapointed in the decision not to play D.Maden at #6 singles and slightly dissapointed in Meza's play.

GT edged VT 4-3. Gomez beat Somen to keep his undefeated ACC record in tact.

Duke beat FSU 4-3. FSU surprisingly won at 5 and 6.

Maryland edged NC State 4-3. Terps made had big rallies on 5 and 6 to secure the gutsy win. Critical win for the Terps because they are a bubble NCAA tourney team

UNC beat Miami 5-2. Dissapointing effort from the U in singles. I thought for sure Miami would dominate at the lower part of the line-up as deoth is UNC's weakness and Miami's strength

torsten loses all the time this year, so no surprise at 5...i'd like to see someone like pinsky or holland take over that spot
