Default March 2011 Converse Jack Purcell Playtest

Thank you Tennis Warehouse for shipping me these gorgeous shoes to playtest!

I hope to get out on the court as soon as possible to try these and share my thoughts.

In person they are stunning. The old school looks are really incredible. These would surely make their way into the mainstream fashion world if they got the publicity. Just a great looking shoe in person.

I just tried them on with Thorlo L3 and they fit like a glove, perfect feel around my feet which I consider to be extremely wide and sensitive to the most slight narrowness.

The insole is very high quality with a firmer plastic base compared to exposed foam that most of the Nike's come with.

These do have Flywire and the LunarLon technology.

More thoughts to come...Thanks again TW.

Very interested to hear your thoughts!
From what i've heard, they're essentially an awesome looking vapor variant, so could be interesting

JD- here's my thoughts. I played in my pairs for approx. 2.5 hours of singles and a hard court surface. I noticed a slight bunching of tongue insertion where the initial first shoelace holes are located. When playing and walking you'll notice the collar open up and close(I've noticed this on most nikes which haave the flywire material.) Grip and traction is on point as well as fit. However, I double socked using a very thin nike no show sock and wore the nike tennis sock over it for a snugger fit. Overall, it was a nice to play in and has that cool retro look that's been beaten down from testers.

Just played an epic set in the heinous outdoor wind.
Played a friend who is a 4.5.

He jumped to a 4-1 lead very quickly and was playing well.

The Jack Purcell's were hanging right in there on many weird short angle points due to the swirling winds of the Hudson River.

The courts are very smooth and the XDR soles were adapting pretty well. Not nearly as beefy as a CB and less traction than a XDR B2K10 or Vapor 8.

At 4-4 he pinned me at the baseline and came in on my backhand and I swung as hard as I could into the gusting wind and hit a nice DTL winner. I looked down at the Jack Purcell's and noticed a large gap around my ankles. I definitely did not tie them tight enough.

Adjustment complete. Much better, thanks!

Stability was sufficient as the shoe appear to have the same comfortable edge around the openings as the B2K and V8. Actually they feel more smooth spandexish B6-like. The heel has a nice beefy feel so these definitely measure up well on a tennis court. They are not a simple converse shoe and are constructed for the court.

I'm a big toe dragger on my left foot and the Purcell's didn't feel awkward at all while I dragged and dragged on several defensive backhand shots.

The comfort of this shoe is very good. I walked in them for about 3 hours total to break them in before even playing on them. I did a lot of street walking doing errands and the shoes were very comfortable lugging around bags from various stores.

I love the style of these shoes and would definitely use them in the cool spring to early Summer on hard courts.

We stopped at 6-6. People waiting at the gate giving dirty looks.

Another epic battle with my Aussie 'mate'.

Great shoe, love these and would definitely buy a pair to have around before they get discontinued!

I'm glad to hear they have good performance to back up the good looks. I shall have to consider them for my next pair of shoes.

Joel, do the sizes run the same as Nikes and is the shoe as wide as they say? Thanks!

Yes the main question here is width..I have a pretty wide foot and Nikes are usually too narrow for me to wear (ex..Barricade 2.3 ..tough for me to break in and never fit right)..Adidas Barricades are the closest to comfortable for me, and I have to wear a 10 instead of a 9 or 9.5, so the toe box is kind of long.

I'd say they are cuz I've worn them with L3 and Nike Elites with just a tiny bit of pinky toe issues but they are definitely stretching out.

Same size as other Nike's?
Perhaps. But we all know sizes vary between models and QA is not perfect.

As with ANY shoe alot depends on what kind of socks you wear.

JD - how are the arches in the Purcell's? For reference, I have a flat foot and wear the Nike CB 2.3's. Anything with a significant arch kills my foot.

I'd rock those just for the fashion. They would never see the court, unless I forgot to grab my usual CB's.

How do you get chosen for playtesting?
And you don't have to return the shoes right?
